you may have to go into your bios settings and tell your system to recognize it.

Bought it last year. Its a Gateway DX4870-UB20P
even if it's not that old it may not support that HD...just guessing.
either way, check the specs on your motherboard.

You definitely can, but you probably don't want to.

yeah if you fine with your current computer for what it is, then just find a compatible hard drive. you'd be surprised what limits people from doing stuff on their computer and its not you to blame.. shyt the amount of people who had 4+ GB of RAM in their computer while using windows XP and looking at their set up on on some
shyt trying to figure out why it would only say 3 GB of RAM gotta be in the hundreds of thousands, not knowing that it was Windows XP stopping them from having more memory
My bios looks a little different, I didn't see an option for auto detect. But when I went to Advanced, then Misc I see the HD listed under AHCI Port 1. The OG 1TB HD is listed under AHCI Port0.
Well, that's good that you can see it in your BIOS, you should be able to set it up in Windows. If not, you'll probably just have to fukk around with some shyt. But if the BIOS is detecting it, you should be good to go.
Actually have you tried disk management yet? If not, go there ASAP and see if you can get it working from there

You probably don't see the drive cause you have to create a volume/partition it. Go to control panel, administrative tools, computer management. You'll end up at a screen like this,
There go to Storage, Disk Management. Find your drive there and right click on it and select partition drive.
