I just googled Gateway DX4870-UB20P and you cant even buy it from any site.. period.. that means they stopped production on it a long time ago

Motherboard is: ipimb-areven if it's not that old it may not support that HD...just guessing.
either way, check the specs on your motherboard.
I paid like $5-600, came w/ a 21" monitor. You right, shoulda built oneJust cause you bought it last year, doesnt mean it came out around thenI just googled Gateway DX4870-UB20P and you cant even buy it from any site.. period.. that means they stopped production on it a long time ago

What are my options for a motherboard? Can i reuse shyt from this computer?
Was trying to do it as cheap as possible, I don't really want to buy/build a whole new computer. I just wanted more memoryYou definitely can, but you probably don't want to.
You can pick some parts here and use this as a starting point to figure out what you want:

They have some fairly good builds there. You can have them make it, or just buy the parts separately from another site

shyt trying to figure out why it would only say 3 GB of RAM gotta be in the hundreds of thousands, not knowing that it was Windows XP stopping them from having more memoryMy bios looks a little different, I didn't see an option for auto detect. But when I went to Advanced, then Misc I see the HD listed under AHCI Port 1. The OG 1TB HD is listed under AHCI Port0.

You probably don't see the drive cause you have to create a volume/partition it. Go to control panel, administrative tools, computer management. You'll end up at a screen like this,
There go to Storage, Disk Management. Find your drive there and right click on it and select partition drive.
I never would have guessedAre you on Windows 8?I never would have guessed
Got to reinstall 7 soon. Every time one of the Windows 8 Metro apps unexpectedly takes over my entire screen I feel like punching a hole in my monitor,
