just for the fukk of it I just OC'd my i5 from 3.4 to 4.0...

Performance gain is definitely noticeable but is 42c too high for idle temp?

What CPU are you running? It might run high. Mine idles at around 31c at a 4.5ghz overlcock, but I'm on an Ivy Bridge (which run cool, in general).

What were your temps before the overclock? Mine only went up like 2c when idling

I believe if you're under 85 on a full load on prime95 you should be good. the max temp is closer to 100c on many of these Intel chips.

Was in that Crew beta...I've always had good luck getting into alphas and beta's honestly...but The Crew beta...I didn't care too much for it but the soundtrack was crazy dope. Muhfukkas had Ante up, What Happened to That Boy, Nasty - Nas, Dillatroit, Deadly medly by Black Milk Royce and Elzhi, Popular Demand, and some other heat rocks I can't even remember. Hadn't heard such a strong rap station in a game in a while. They had their ears to the underground as well as some classics.

The gameplay was aight but I didn't fall in love with it like I do other racers. Plus it only took like 50 minutes to drive across the whole country.

Really depends on your ambient temps amongst other things but 42c isn't bad. However, if all you did was change the multiplier then your mobo is increasing the voltage automatically and most likely overcompensating for the clocks. Figure out how much voltage your system is using and if its stable at said voltage, then start decreasing it in steps of 2 until you become unstable. Once unstable increase it by 1 step until you're stable again.
