AMD is going for more reasonably priced cards. I sincerely doubt they'll be anywhere near the 10 series of nvidia cards. AMD is trying to go the budget route. I don't expect much from them. Their last generation of cards were underwhelming (the fact that you bought a 290x, instead of a 390x is telling, in itself). AMD is taking a different direction than Nvidia. Nvidia is going for the high end market, while AMD is going for the more everyday user market.

AMD cards were pretty bad this last generation (they were rebranded 200 series cards, and their top of the line cards performed worse than Nvidia's). I don't expect them to come up with anything faster than the Nvidia cards at all anymore. They're focusing on a different market.

I recommend buying an Nvidia card in the future. They have exclusive deals with game companies with Nvidia gameworks, better drivers (most of the time), and are just generally faster GPUs

Damn actually thought they would turn the page this gen. The 290x was probably their best card and I don't have any complaints with it. How much is the new Nvidia going for?

Well, the 1080 is $599 and the 1070 is $379. While there haven't been really any "real world" benchmarks yet, the 1080 is supposed to be 20% faster than the Titan X and the 1070 is supposed to be close to the Titan X is performance. The 1070 is probably the better deal

Benchmarking anything at 1080p with these type of cards is pointless...

I'm sure my 980 could get 80 - 100 fps on doom full settings at 1080p

I'm going to wait for 4k benchmarks before I decide how to feel about this card...

However if you are thinking about an upgrade for a real reason then these cards are a no brainer due to the price point...

shyt wait a few months and you can probably get a 980 or 980ti for 300 or less...

maybe used cards, but the retail prices of these cards seldom comes down much. there's stores out there still trying to get $500+ for a gtx 780

I just typed in gtx 780 and the first thing it showed me was some place selling them for 850...:baldhuh:

I was thinking more along the lines of amazon and newegg though...they are going to have to clear their inventory...

Although...since these are the last cards under Nvidia architecture it might jack the price up since it becomes sort of a collectors item:patrice:

Which explains why those 780's can be so high...they don't make them anymore:patrice:

every time a new generation of cards comes out, people think the old cards will get cheaper, but it just doesn't happen

I think gpu's are expensive for retailers, and not sold at a large profit. so when the new $380 card is much better than the old $500, they really don't want to take the loss of selling the old $500 card for $300 or less. I'm not sure what they do with their backstock though, besides hope they can find a sucker to buy it. maybe they can get some sort of credit from the manufacturer

Only real discounts are in the form of some mail in rebate. Maybe $50 max.

In terms of old stock. I don't think companies like newegg keep a large quantity on hand. Anything they don't move I'm pretty sure they just put together some of their ABS gaming builds where they can squeeze out some profit that way.

Supposedly they have a new, "better" cooler on them that the "normal" cards don't have though. Don't know if it's worth $100, but it supposed to help with overclocking :manny:
