:wtf: I bought a 7870 earlier this morning and I replaced my old gtx 550 ti with it but after I did that the computer wouldn't POST. I checked RAM, pci-e gfx card connectors, cmos battery, usb devices and nothing. I put the old gtx 550 ti in and it doesn't post either. No beeps or anything with either card. Fans and hard drive spin so idk. Last thing I did with the computer was shut it down the night before. I'm hoping it's not a shorted mobo because I really don't feel like having to buy a new mobo already.

my go to answer is the psu (after obvious things, like something not plugged in), but it could be the mobo

honestly the way the story sounds, I'm thinking about static discharge and shyt. it seems like it was something you did, and not just random hardware failure. didn't you have a similar story about fixing someone's xbox :heh:

Everything was plugged in prior to installing the card. I didn't unplug anything. The PC was off for the night, came in the morning, swapped the cards and BAM!, no post. The PSU is a 500w Thermaltake which fits under the 500w requirement for the 7870. I plugged in the two molex power connectors to the GPU and made sure the ram wasn't loose. :yeshrug:

I'm hoping it's not static discharge, but the computer is in a carpeted room. The PC fans come on and the hard drives spin so it's not like it sounds different, it just doesn't POST. I'll try my cards in another pc later and try resetting the jumper switch. These guys at Microcenter didn't even have the fc3:bd, BI and TR codes so I just made them give me 3 bioshocks. I'll fukk around and return this card for another one if push comes to shove and get another 3 cards. :ohhh:

Oh and that dude's Xbox probably was bugged when I flashed it as I didn't actually check it before flashing. :skip: I know I was grounded that day.

if it was the psu not being powerful enough, it should still work with the 550ti

fans but no beeps is weird. are your fans hooked directly to the psu, or through the mobo?

What happens when you plug the new GPU into the other computer/motherboard you have along with the 500 PSU?

None of the games on my back burner have held my interest since I finished up BioShock. I usually lose interest in gaming right before they drop a new console generation, so I'm hoping things pick up around the holiday season.
