Requesting assistance:

Looking to upgrade my PC as W10 is ending in less than 2 months.
It was built for me so unsure if it's easy enough to just take out the motherboard and Intel chip. Unsure if i( is the way to go to future-proof it. Current specs (Intel chip does NOT suppoprt upgrade to W11):

Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4790K CPU @ 4.00GHz 4.00 GHz
Installed RAM 16.0 GB
Storage 932 GB HDD WDC WD10EZEX-00WN4A0, 224 GB SSD MKNSSDEC240GB
Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER (8 GB)
System Type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
Pen and touch No pen or touch input is available for this display

I can make a separate thread and upload pics of the actual tower if this will help others help me

I'd establish whether the original motherboard is mATX (compact) or MTX (mid tower), then you'd know what you'd be able to replace it with.

After that filter it along with the parts you want to carry over into pcpartpicker and browse for motherboards and chips and it will automatically narrow down your search options according to what's compatible.

Edit: you can also filter by operating system

Thanks.

The ASUS Z97-A/USB 3.1 motherboard is ATX, which is a standard size and not considered compact. ATX motherboards are compatible with mid-tower cases, but they are larger than smaller formats like Micro-ATX and Mini-ITX.

I want an i9 but so so many options (some i5 priced higher than other!); for the record this i7 is great and has ahndled everything I've thrown at it (except 8K type vids but understandable as the video card os not that); really only upgrading because W10 support s ending and the current CPU cannot upgrade to W11

which would you recommend that will work with my current video card but can also handle an nvidia upgrade?

Sorry breh, all AMD over here, wouldn't know what I'm looking for :hubie:

You'll want to settle on a price range whatever though

You should go with the latest Intel motherboards. You can get a motherboard + current ultra core 7 265k + ram for around $450 at microcenter.

That will work with your current 2070 super and handle an Nvidia upgrade.
