Chivalry free weekends are hilarious, I feel like a fukking Jedi when these clowns hop on thinking shyt is sweet. I played last night, and had several games with 40+ kills and 3-4 deaths, they have no idea how to stop drag swings or what to do when I run at them, turn on a dime and they swing and I run away without attacking only to turn around and stab them as they chase me

R9 280x or $260 xfx double d 7970?..

Whichever is cheaper. I believe both are clocked to the same speeds. The XFX may be quieter depending on which 280x you are looking at.

lol, at around 02:26:00 in that video, someone in the audience asks the Mantle question (remember this is the nvidia event, and Johan from DICE is there)

right away Johan decided to let Carmack and Sweeney answer first. they basically say it's interesting, but question how it will effect pc gaming overall. Johan kinda "we just want our game to run better"

then someone from the audience hit's him with the "how much did they pay you?"

If that's the case in gonna get the 7970..it just makes more sense cause it's about 50 bucks cheaper..not including my 10% off coupon..

nvidia always brings it though. They are up there in performance always but not performance per dollars.

They go insane with their pricing which is why I'm switching teams this go-around.

they don't alway bring a solution to a fundamental problem that's plagued games for years though

I think Carmack touched on the fact that it sucked that you could have hardware powerful enough to pump crazy resolution, framerate, effects, etc, but just have the experience ruined by screen tearing and/or stutters

here's the impressions of a dude from Respawn (Titanfall) that posts on gaf, on the demo they were shown a few weeks back

In the demo NVIDIA gave us a couple weeks ago my eyes felt like they were "seeing" the smoothness of 60hz all the way down to about 35-40fps. It was at that point I thought the NVIDIA guys were lying and made them turn on an out-of-demo framecounter like FRAPs. It was at precisely that point I went and grabbed every person at Respawn that I could find. So many jaws on the floor that day, lol.

kinda puts performance in a different perspective when maintaining a certain framerate isn't so important

It's def one of those things that can't be appreciated unless you see it first hand. No longer do you need to maintain a steady 60 with no drops to have a smooth experience.

I think u would...that's what I'm getting from what was said...would u pick the R9 280x over the hd7970?..or are the basically the same shyt?..cause I'm seeing the 7970 for about 50 bucks cheaper and I'm just tryna make the choice before the end of the night..

he's saying that when running at 35-40fps, the demo looked as smooth as 60fps. so much so, that he thought the nvidia guys were lying about the actual framerate. they turned on fraps, and they weren't lying. then he claims all the Respawn guy's jaws hit the floor (because that shyt is amazing)

I guess this was a private demo a couple of weeks ago, so he couldn't say anything until now (because NDA)

it is the kind of thing you have to see in person to really appreciate though. I'm just basically taking his word that they were all blown away
