Man I need help. My GPU I assume is overheating because where it sits in my case, my sound card is literally right in front of it and it's blocking the intake fan on the GPU. I was playing BF4 this morning at 1080P/Ultra settings and after about 15 minutes the PC just shut off. I can't move the sound card as the mobo is Micro-atx so there's no other way to put it in the system.

what temps is your gpu hitting?

anyway, I don't think your gpu overheating should shut down your system. but your cpu overheating could do that. or your psu could be dying

i just tested it and my gpu hit 89c. i was testing it with max payne 3 at 4K. My cpu temp was at like 43c but that's inaccurate so i would guess it was at 63 which is still below the max temps for my cpu plus i got a aftermarket cooler installed on it so I doubt the CPU is overheating.
This is my power supply.

I'm gonna remove the card and try it again to see how it fares.

Edit: The symptoms I'm having(Shutdown with no BSoD) seem to indicate a PSU problem. When it does shut down the PC isn't able to just turn right back on. I usually have to fiddle with all the plugs and devices attached to the computer. I also seem to have visual artifacts outside of games. Right now there's like this small square pixels that are flickering at the top of my screen.

Well that line of PSU's are known to be crap and may not be able to pull the wattage they are rated for among other things. The issues with the PSU may be rearing its head now with your recent upgrades. You can use HWINFO64 to see what the PSU is feeding your system via the +5V, +3.3V, +12V rails. If any of the readings are below their respective voltages you may have a faulty unit / cable / etc. These readings are also available in most board's bios/uefi.

89c is pretty damn hot

but that psu may not even have enough juice. it has two 12v rails: one with 18 amps, and the other with 17. now it's my understanding that you can't just add those numbers together to get the total amperage on the 12v, as the real number is usually lower. so in this case we're looking at less than 35 amps on the 12v. after a little reading around, I found people recommending 36-40 amps on the 12v for a 7970. and you're definitely pushing the limits, if you're pushing the card to 89c

in general, I recommend getting a PSU with a high amp single 12v rail, and some kind of "80 plus" cert. like this 500w evga psu with 40 amps on the 12v

89c is too hot, my GPUs don't even hit that high when mining and my cooling is not even that great on those rigs.

Purchased a G3258 the other day. Plan on pushing it to its limits. :demonic:

Micro Center with that ridiculous $100 dollar bundle, :damn:
Breh what you think about this...

I actually wanted an ATX board anyway because of my dilemma with my sound card blocking off my GPU fan and I thought... why don't I just replace my
FX 6300+ this board http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/M5A78LM_LX_PLUS/ with that Pentium G3258 bundle?? I can overclock that shyt to 4.5ghz easily since I already have an aftermarket cooler so it should hold it's own against the FX 6300 right?? Also another benefit is I'd be able to upgrade later down the line to a better LGA 1150 CPU.... :patrice: I wouldn't have to pay a dime for this because I got that warranty already on the FX 6300 and mobo. :win: With the money I'd get back from taking advantage of this deal, I could get a better PSU too. :patrice:

Do it. The upgrade path alone is worth it.

edit: I should have purchased a warranty for the 4790K,:snoop:

Being able to go back a few months later and trade your shyt for something new, :noah:

Man that warranty shyt ain't no joke. It's like spending money once and constantly getting new shyt with that same amount of money.

that $100 bundle is ridiculous. it's like you're paying for the mobo and getting a free cpu
