But I can't really blame this on churches. Most people don't even go to church like that. People in general are just complacent.

It's had a pacifying effect since slavery breh... it's ingrained in the culture now. More generally, pacifism (only when it comes to social change murdering certain groups in the U.S. and bombing other countries is still okay ) and complacency are taught in schools with that cursory and surface view of the Civil Rights Movement.
