I took piano and violin in school but thats beside the point breh. I bet if you go on youtube or wherever to look for hiphop/rap/trap beat making tutorials you got a 90% chance the producer teaching the video gonna be white. just threw me off when I first noticed it.

Its the times we live in though I guess :yeshrug:i aint trippin.

I've notice this too. Whites tend to the artistic side of the game more seriously. Think about this how many (young) brothers you know are beat digger these days?

Besides, being able to play live instruments doesnt mean you can make beats

Just because you can make beats doesnt mean you can write a song. You make more money as an actual producer than a beat maker. Beat makers come and go, producers are around for decades.

Yeah, its like we can't find our next J. Dilla or Just Blaze who knew and sampled all kinds of old school music and know how to play instruments, but the young black producers want to be like Mike Will with the trap beats, and not artistically push beyond the limited sound.
Phases per decade...

Explain this further.

Some of the strongest purveyors of old soul music over the last 20 years have been white, DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist come to mind, but then again you have people like T-Ray who go way back as well, that really appreciated a lot of the older soul music with proper drum samples and all that. You just don't see it as much, mainstream things started to change around 2000 or so.

Damu the Fudgemunk, obviously Dilla, and ?uestlove are big proponents of the digging scene for production that I can think of off the top of my head.

no need to discredit white producers unless were talking hip hop solely. A metal producer / engineer is more talented and important than those in hip hop

I think a lot of people confuse beat makers with producers to begin with....and there are beat makers who hav been around for years, the ones who have crafted their own distinct, signature sound rather than be carbon copies of the flavor of the month hot sound. As far as actual producing, theres a whole team behind that. You have the ears who select the sounds and give feedback, the beat makers, live instruments, ghost writers for lyrics and the mixers/masterers. You will find very few who can do most of these things themselves, let alone all of the above. The industry has a lot of cats who will slap their name on everything and take credit but thats typical in the biz.

No, I meant that a lot of black folk never live up to their potential because they get too comfortable. Anyone on top of their game will tell you that never to get comfortable. Brehs unfortunately got caught up and think that no one will top them. Where is the new Just Blaze? Where is the new Dilla?
