It’s time to talk about some modern classics. I had to drive with wifey to Nashville last week and we were listening to modern r&b classics. I’m not a Bryson Tiller fan at all but
This song is dope. I looked it up and realized it’s 10 years old I feel like people don’t talk enough about who are the modern r&b greats. We stay talking about the old shyt lol. Might be time to archive the r&b great artists and songs from like 2010 to now..
I love modern acts and their sounds, but whenever I listen to most of them and go back and listen to RnB from the mid 00s to the 70s that I heard for most of my childhood, I realise the percentage of danceable RnB songs decreased.
Usher’s Confessions was the last really great mainstream R&B album from start to finish. That’s been over 20 years ago now.
True R&B is now called Neo-Soul. Those Neo-Soul artists while talented don’t get the love of R&B acts of the past. It’s more of a niche genre now.
I’m more of a fan of the old school from the early 70s until about 2005.
There are a lot of talented acts that really don’t get love on the radio and you really have to look for. Spotify has introduced me to so many dope artists I didn’t even know existed.
I can never get into the soulless, whispering, nasally R&B of today. Plus they sound indistinguishable. I hear a Kehlani song and thought it was Summer Walker or SZA singing. Not to mention, today’s acts are also so boring. I tried to like Her, Coco, and Ari. But the music isn’t great.
As for the guys like Brent and even Tory, I could never get into them. But, I like to give the women a chance.
