Before Detective Comics #48, Batman's adventures were said to happen in New York City. Gotham is known to be architecturally modeled after New York City, but with exaggerated elements of the styles and derives its name from asobriquet for that real world city, first popularized by the author Washington Irving in his satirical work Salmagundi (1807).

Yes they are the same but bob Kane stated it a long time ago that Gotham city is ny on the coldest night in November

The most accurate depiction of Gotham was in batman the animated series because of the Art Deco 1930 design was suppose to fit the original creation

So Gotham and Metropolis are BOTH New York???


I mean I saw it many times.... Metropolis has the fukking Statue of Liberty

Gotham is a mix of gritty cities and high rising european metropolitan designs with long standing architeture depending on which era and incarnation

Anywhere between a mix of NY, Detroit, Chicago, Philly, Boston, London, Paris, Munich I guess.
