This is a fair assessment. The ps4 is sony making up for what the ps3 should have been. And the Xbox is M$ vision of the future. Only time will tell which will come out on top, but in the meantime I'm gone :eat: good off this game sharing and those Xbox One exclusives:blessed:

I'll be real for a minute.

Just like Sony did with the PS3, MS is jumping the gun WAY too early trying to create the Itunes/Steam of console gaming. The game done changed. It's not about control of the living room no more like they were trying to do with WebTV. They are at least a gen too early IMO. The bandwidth limits, internet accessibility to consoles just isn't there yet. Physical media will eventually die, but it's way too early.

3rd console curse is worse than the madden curse. :ohhh:

yeah, that's why digital games should be cheaper

and they will be once everyone is on board with ALL digital. but until then. the price has to be the same as the brick and mortar.

How Retail Games are Made from 1UP.com

READ IT, at least read this first page and go to page 4 or 5 i believe.

thats an article from 2011. 2 years ago. EA said it.

As far as former EA executive Bing Gordon is concerned, the move away from packaged games is inevitable. "Physical media's just going away," he said to 1UP earlier this year. "I think we are moving from paper and plastic to digital, and there's a generation that's going to come up and go, 'That paper and plastic just feels wrong. This excess packaging -- it just feels wrong. Having to have used stuff around just feels wrong.'"

It's easy to list the pros of digital distribution: it saves money, it's convenient, and it doesn't leave behind an environmental footprint. If video games follow the music industry's lead and physical media fades into obscurity, is that so bad?

:wtf:
You have that option too.

Some people can't download huge files. So they get the benefit of physical discs AND online purchases.

Omg, just listen for a second. I have NO problem with MS selling games online, I do think that the service they are offering for downloaded games is great.

But, physical games are an entirely different thing and should be treated as such. The uploading of physical games is the problem. This is why the whole used/loaned/swapped game fiasco is so fukking ridiculous. If they didn't have the upload option they wouldn't need 24 hour connectivity, they wouldn't need to fukk with people who buy, sell loan and swap, basically they wouldn't be getting such a negative backlash from consumers. Nobody asked for an upload option. All that good shyt about switching between games is a selling point for downloading games.

If people have download limits, fine, let them continue to buy physical. Also let them continue to sell, trade and loan those physical games however they choose. Don't take away their consumer power just so they can swap between games faster.

I think no matter what gen they chose to do it there would be a fire storm. Think about it, if it happens Gamestop is essentially out of business. Done! They lost the PC business over a decade ago due to CD keys and then Steam pretty much closed the door. Once they lose consoles thats a multi billion dollar business that has no way of making money.

So you combine retail digging in and consumers who are afraid of change and no matter when you try to implement the system there is trouble. Remember when Steam first showed up you had people all over the net shytting on it and saying it was the worst thing to happen to gaming. Now they cant get enough of it. There is word of Gamestop managers pulling Xbox ads from their store and handing out leaflets shytting on the new system. You think they doing that just to inform the consumer? Haaaaaaa

I dont know if that N64 qualifies. It was a hell of a lot better than the Gamecube. That was the system that caused Nintendo fans to turn.

hold up before jumping the gun.

ISP's have set up bandwidth limit. With the household having at least 2 - 3 devices that connect to the internet, that bandwidth will get eaten very quick.

For everyone to go to the digital age, the bandwidth has to be unlimited. Most providers set at 250 gb.

Also how big will each file be? 10 gb minimum at least. And finally, how quick will the servers be? How will it take people to download a 20gb game? You think people will wait around 2 - 3 days to download games, while they can just get their ass up and go to the store.

This is just lazy practice. There are too many ifs involved. Mainly the bandwidth cap that limits what consumers can do with their internet.

EDIT: Heres a link from IGN that explains exactly what i'm talking about

ISP Data Caps in the Era of Downloadable Games - IGN

That shyt will be murder on release day of big games with everybody logging on to download their copy.

Also lol at people thinking if they went all digital download that Microsoft would make games cheaper. Halo 3 right now is $20 in games on demand (I know it's going to be free soon, that isn't the point). You can get that shyt for $8 used at Gamestop. When they don't have to deal with Gamestop offering cheaper access anymore & control the market on their games :sheed:

I think we all know physical media is doomed. That is a foregone conclusion. But UNTIL we get to that point (again, accessible internet access for at least 90 to 95 percent of current consumers with NO DOWNLOAD LIMITS) then you have to give the option to have physical media for console games and in the process have them the same price as digi downloads when released.

PS Plus is a gloried Steam system now with the discounts we get. The free games is just :lawd: :wow: :salute:

As far as 3rd console curse for Nintendo, the 64 was the beginning of the end that continued and hit a brick wall with the Gamecube. Who knows what shyt would be like if Nintendo didn't pull out of their deal with Sony. I bet they regret that shyt.

Exactly. MS aint foolin nobody. They want control of the console market to try and control shyt like they do with windows. Problem is they are fighting too many fights and trying to battle Apple, Google, Sony at the same time.

If the PS3 debuted at 399, it would not have mattered what MS did. The RROD inflated sales and they gave up a 9 million lead. Sony fukkin up allowed MS to take a good portion of Sony's fanbase they built with the PSX, and PS2.

They've obviously learned their lesson and hopefully MS will as well.

This is your opinion. I disagree. Last gen people begged to be able to play games directly off the hardrive. I think this is an advancement. If you don't like the 24 hour check that's on you. You will miss out on amazing gaming experiences so you can protest a requirement that you obviously already have.:manny:

Oh my fukking god, how do you not follow what I'm saying? I support online purchasing and downloading games onto your system so that you can load directly of the console. I love that concept. however, this can be done WITHOUT the need for uploading physical copies and without killing used game sales/swaps/trades/loans.

Used games sales/swaps/trades/loans are still available on Xbox 1

It wouldn't make sense for them to build all of those games switching abilities into the OS then tell you that you can only use those advancements if you download games. Most people can't be downloading 20-40 GB worth of shyt for every game.
