this is an example of how New York sounds today

[ame]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rakEbf-Zmdo[/ame]

fukk a hipster, I'm a nikka, Brooklyn born
Banned everything but the liquor, ghetto Qur'ans
I speak songs to the willing and the righteous
Might just wine for the gal in the tight dress
fukk that, never disrespect a silly record
Less it's disrespecting Brooklyn, you'll get your live token
No you shouldn't, but you will, we armed and aimed to kill
Brooklyn heavy weight you'll never take us under G for real.

I know OP made this thread out of hate cause every non-ny nikka got an inferiority complex when it comes to us.... but sadly enough I gotta agree with his ass...

NYC demography and culture is changin' and the hoods that made this place the mecca of hip hop are bein' pushed out the city... Gentrification, housin prices goin' out the roof, a higher cost of livin'... the only blacks that will still live in the city in 15-20 years are gonna be uppity negros who want no parts of the ghetto/projects culture...

Im hopin' hip hop can adapt to the new lifestyle of the newer generations in the city... Its not so bad when you really think about our change, cause NYC its actually rejuvinatin' itself... preparin' to compete with all the other big cosmopolitan cities in the world... Hong Kong, Singapore,Moscow, Shangai Tokyo, Dubai (not talkin' bout dusty ass LA, fakkit ass ATL, Postapocalyptic detroit).... So yeah change its not easy OP... but at least we changin for the better....

Whats LA becomin? Cali? Uh? Maybe westcoast hip hop culture will finally be replaced with mariachis... FOH

Bronx, NYC
OP is right, Brooklyn is fukking soft and that hip-hop scene is filled with upper middle class Black kids trying to make a struggle out of no struggle , the South Bronx nikkas sound too rugged and going the meek mill route is their ceiling(but even that is a difficult route) The only dude who has a NYC sound but that it is not outdated is Bodega Bamz out of East Harlem but I don't know if he has crossover appeal to make it big...

The first line of OP's post sums up Boston hip-hop as well.

The old NY will never come back . . the old people will never do it again for that was a special time and place.

A new generation will emerge because NYC is a beautiful place to be an artist

Over our dead body.

That said, you touched on something. Hip-hop thrives off misery, so when conditions improve, did hip-hop serve its purpose or are we killing hip-hop? Interesting debate.

yeah the interesting thing is that Hip Hop has trouble thriving in times of relative peace. Back in the 80s and 90s where there was lots of social turmoil (gangs, crime, racism), shyt was aggressive and in-your-face cause it had to be addressed. Now when cities are getting cleaned up from gentrification and minority kids today have life easier than previous generations, all they want to do is party. problem is, the party tracks lack quality and ADD is commonplace.

Yup, majority of the black folk flocking to down south in record numbers due to outrageous cost of living. Even the black kids today rather be like an ASAP over a MOP type.
