Its because I think the crack cocaine and poverty era that existed in NY in the 80's and 90's was the fuel that created the golden era of hip hop (bdk, rakim, nas, wu tang, jay-z, etc).

The best hip hop music is created out of struggle and people who have a story to tell about it.

NY gentrification happened and no longer do these dudes have a interesting story to tell.

Yup, majority of the black folk flocking to down south in record numbers due to outrageous cost of living. Even the black kids today rather be like an ASAP over a MOP type.

I think this is one of the reasons why the south gonna have a longer period than both east and west coast rap did at the top... A lotta nikkaz from the northern part of the country goin' back down south and from what I hear its the same thing goin' on out west... I swear to God I thought DC, Philly, Jersey and NY alone held at least half the black population in the US... cause its nikkaz wherever you go in any of these states...

I remember makin' a thread about not believing we were only 13% of the US population, cause in some places on the east coast you couldnt find a white person for days, all nikkaz, asians and latinos...

I live in bmore and large portions of the cities are full of nothing but nikkas and the white people u do see are wigger types. As a matter of fact if you are a regular white person u run the risk of getting stopped and profiled for buying drugs in most parts of bmore city except for maybe downtown and a few other pockets of the city. Even if you go downtown by the courthouse and in the business districts u see alot of nikkas wandering around. I personally think that those numbers are exaggerated.

I really think so too...

Northern east coast is the highest density populated area in the whole country and I'd say between 20-30% of the counties making it up if not totally black are at least majority black. Mad black nikkaz out in cali too... and then you have the south, which is supposed to have the highest black pop...

The parts of the country which are supposed to be mostly white are the least populated ones... numbers ain't adding up.

its the fans. The fans are not diverse and thus you get the same type of music from everybody. Anything that doesn't sound like ny hip hop they get fed from somewhere else.
Artists don't take chances so you either to be very good at it or been in the game long enough to have built a core fan base.
