I haven't bought any current gen systems. I usually play old NEO GEO and arcade ports on Hyperspin.

I think that this gen lacks innovation in interactivity (beyond the Kinect and PS snow-cone), and game marketing is at an all time low. How many video game commercials do you seen on TV nowadays?...

Commercials on TV for video games are not needed for the most part. Most gamers are on youtube/twitch and other places before watching the good old TV.

Terrible...TERRIBLE analogy. Standards are higher now and it shows. You guys just love to let Nostalgia keep you thinking that those games in the past are great...many of those old ass games were broken as fukk. Fun? Yeah we were young, but still broken.

Oh and most of those old ass games you just listed are not playable at all by today's standards. The OG Mario Bros isn't a good game by today's standards, it's just a classic because it was the first game that many people played. Super Mario World is the only 2D mario game released back in the day that I would consider playable by the younger audience today, they will dismiss part 1 and part 2 easily because of their controls. Mortal Kombat X is the best Mortal Kombat ever released. Perfect Dark? Sonic 2? Those games just won't fly today because we have evolved and have better games that fill a similar need to the gamers.
:what:

This is absolutely untrue. Super Mario Maker's SMB1 levels are usually the best and the gameplay still holds up today. What in the worll u talmbout?

maybe he's talking about this one

no way he means the NES version which created the standard/blueprint for platforming games

I HOPE he meant that one. If he meant SMB, he should be demoted to a regular poster and then banned for one week and someone should report his account to Steam and remove his FEZ key.

Recently downloaded a GameCube and PSX emulator and @Liquid is right. I couldn't even play most of those games :scust:

I disagree on Mario tho. That game still feels good to this day. Those types of games are few and far between though.

Overall this gen been good to a nikka:win:

Yeah, I meant the NES Mario Bros.

Sorry, that game hasn't aged that well and anyone who has played Mario Maker can tell. The movement and everything else is just not as fluid as the later 2D mario games that followed. The best example I can come up with is a budget title such as Giana Sisters Twisted Dreams that came out a few years ago, that game feels WAY better than that old ass Mario Game from 30+ years ago. Was it great for it's time because it was the absolute best and was the blueprint for many years? YES, but today? Nah...no way man. A game with those controls no named Mario gets trashed...shyt is a straight 4.291 across the board on metacritic with today's standards. Hell even Doki Doki Panic (SMB2) controls MUCH better than SMB on the NES. SMB 3? NO CONTEST, SMW? Best 2D mario game Nintendo ever released.

A LOT of those "classic" games fall into that category as well. It's not to bash them, it's just to acknowledge the advancement that I think people take for granted way too much. Even Half-Life 2 (A somewhat MODERN GOAT) feels outdated and there is nothing wrong with that.

It is not even Giana Sisters Twisted Dreams quality breh. I am not just talking graphics either, but as an overall package. You going to sit there and tell me someone who has never played either game is going to have more fun with that game over Twisted Dreams? You guys really need to look at this from the same view as a 5 year old today...no way will they have more fun with those old ass games over the modern ones today due to all the advancement.

wrong wrong wrong. Mario Bros 1 on Mario Maker feels great and has aged fairly. There's absolutely nothing wrong with it.

Nah man, that is straight up BS.

You are going to sit there and tell me that it feels JUST fine compared to SMB3 and Mario World? Even side by side breh? Come on man...

How would you know someone wouldn't like it?? The game is fairly simple, run to the right and jump on shyt. The physics are perfect and just works. Mario Maker's best effects are on the OG Mario engine(use new characters, sound effects etc.) What are you basing this on?

Are you serious? :wtf:

I won't know, but I will take my chances and bet that they will enjoy a game like Giana Sisters over the OG Mario Bros just because it feels so much better to play.

There is NO way you are serious. It is simple, but the gameplay feels much smoother in 3 and World. I don't even know how this is debatable. It's like you guys are scared to throw criticism at a game that is 30+ years old.

Breh, I have Mario Maker lol.
The physics for SMB1-3/World NSMB are all the same(It's based off the NSMB games). Soo. playing SMB1 on Super Mario Maker would feel EXACTLY the same as NSMB. There literally isn't any difference aside from graphics.

“In the end we used the New Super Mario Bros. U system for all of the game styles. There was quite a lot of discussion about this within the team. Staff who had strong attachment to the original games expressed a strong desire to see implemented the same system they remembered. However, when players who are used to the modern Mario physics tried playing with the old physics, they found it much more difficult than they remembered. The original Super Mario Bros would only scroll to the right, so we tentatively made it so that it doesn’t scroll left in this game style. However, many people on the team complained that it was less fun to play. Still, we have left in some unique aspects to each game style, like how you can carry shells from Super Mario Bros 3 onwards, but you can’t throw them upwards until Super Mario World, and you can only wall-jump in New Super Mario Bros. U.”

They don't feel the same way to me AT ALL. I will play it again tomorrow to see if maybe I am making too much out of it. But Mario 3 and especially World always felt much better to me than the OG.
