Even if the 2nd ammendment was repealed, amended or reinterpreted in the courts as to only apply to "regulated militias" (I.E. the police, military) It still would have little to no effect on gun violence in this country. ESPECIALLY in "urban" areas. Firearms are just to widely proliferated throughout our society. All it would do is foster a bigger and even more booming black market for firearms & ammo. And if the government was really serious about getting rid of firearms in this country, they would have to spend 100's of Billions (in the middle of a 17 TRILLION dollar deficit) trying to collect, seize and confiscate 100's of millions of firearms floating around the U.S. It would be a logistical nightmare trying to attempt such a thing. Not to mention cause a lot of violence and bloodshed. Just not a realistic option. I mean just look at the bang up job the federal government has done in stamping out drug use in the U.S. over the course of their 4 decade old "war on drugs".... Drugs sure are alot harder to find since the drug war started, aren't they? :heh:

Frankly I think its too late for "meaningful" gun control. And by meaningful I mean something that's actually going to make a difference. That can really only be to outlaw some or most guns. Other propositions, like more thorough background checks aren't really going to work. That wouldn't have stopped the shooting at UC Santa Barbara or the Newtown massacre. The virgin psycho wasn't a felon and the other kid used his Moms gun. To make a difference, laws would have to actually prohibit the manufacture and possession of most guns. That's not going to happen. Then you also have the problem of the guns already in circulation. There are more guns in America than cars. How do you get those guns? Does law enforcement start going into the homes of known gun owners to take their guns? YEAH RIGHT. You'll have Waco incidents all over this country.

You have to institute federal minimum sentencing and charge up the ladder of the transfer of the weapon ownership using "all in" laws. It's a simple problem to correct, really. Keep your guns, but if you commit a homie you and the owner go in or you and the private party who sold to you without a bg check go in.. etc.

Yeah, more draconian laws will remedy the situation. :beli:

Because similar draconian laws vis a vis the black market drug industry has successfully put a halt to drug trafficking, right? With all these football numbers they've been passing out to dealers over the past 30 years or so they've made it so soooo difficult for people to obtain drugs and have successfully detered people from wanting to deal drugs, right? :beli:

The only beneficiary of something like that would be the prison industry.

As long as there is a demand for firearms (like drugs) people are going to get them regardless of what a law or statute has to say about it. Especially given the reality of the wide proliferation of guns in this country, most of which are unregistered & untraceable because there's no gun registration in most states in the union. The state would only be able to trace the gun back to the original dealer who the manufacturer sent it out to. No practical way to institute something like that.
