Not true. He was interviewed and stated that the whole 'workout buddy' thing was a complete fabrication. Sheamus (and Barrett and Drew McIntyre) had some hot times on the British Indy Circuit - but nobody gives a damn about that, sad to say.

He said on Twitter they only worked out once or twice, but HHH has been looking out for him before he debuted on TV. I distinctly remember him doing interviews in around 2009-2010 where HHH was talking about how Sheamus was the whole package ALREADY before he debuted on RAW. Whether or not they are best buddies doesn't really negate the fact HHH has looked out for him. He allowed Sheamus of ALL PEOPLE, go over on him in his last " standard" fued before going to part time status after WrestleMania. This is HHH, the guy who doesn't job and always goes over, taking his time to put over an unproven talent at the time.

And what do you mean "hot times" on the British Indy scene?

This may very well have something to do with it. I don't know the numbers, but it seems like a lot of little kids are wearing Sheamus t-shirts, so they keep Sheamus smiling like Ronald McDonald and to me that kills his character.

If ever anyone needed to do an "I lost my smile" promo, it's Sheamus.

WWE does make a habit of pushing the merch of their preferred guys. There was a point in time Zack Ryder was moving major merch and they made a point to stomp that out

shave his head, grow a full beard. turn him into a monster heel. i think he'd be good if they booked him right, but they already have Lesnar and Rusev as monsters.

Drew and Wade were a tag team who feuded with Sheamus. They all got their WWE try-outs based on their chemistry with each other, and Drew and Sheamus actually did their try out match in England together.
