Still rewatching season 1 and if they just added some goofy kind of music to all the scenes with Tony's Mom and of Junior and Tony's crew this show would be a full blown comedy.

It’s definitely a dark comedy on multiple rewatches. I don’t know if they intended it to be that way but a lot of the scenes and interactions that are serious, end up being hilarious.

Some of the jokes especially the racial ones are mainly bad writing imo. But yeah the scenes especially with his mom are funny af. Notably after the failed hit on Tony (which is also a ridiculous scene and racist imo) pure dark comedy.

IIRC, Chase said one of the main inspirations for the show was the Goodfellas scene when they're at Tommy's mom's house after whacking a guy, they're just sitting around the table shooting the shyt and the whole thing is absurd and funny af.
