To be fair to the Dems, politics was a little different back then. They probably thought win or lose they could "cross the aisle" and get a lot of shyt done

The spinelessness of Demorats started way before Bush v. Gore. It started as far back as the Johnson Administration. Lyndon B., was the last Democratic leader that was unapologetic and he was ruthless. He wasn't looking to compromise with Dixiecrat fascists like these current group of weaklings, which is how he got his Great Society legislation passed. Southern people probably benefit the most from Great Society legislation, but their politicians that represent are like feudal English Lords that try to keep them backwards.

They had some similarities. They both were Senators from States that became President. They both knew the ins and outs of legislation. In my opinion where they differed is that Johnson was braver and he knew the consequences of his legislation and he did it anyway. Johnson's actions is what drove Southern Democrats into the Republican Party, but he knew that if he didn't do it he would be letting extremists whole regions of America poor and backwards. The Republicans have trying to roll back his legislation every since.

I disagree that everyone knew. At the time, every mainstream media were still parading the false WMD narrative It was incredibly unpopular to oppose the Iraq war at the time. Michael Moore was famously booed at the oscars for being against the invasion



It wasn't until after the election that the truth started coming out and mainstream media could no longer hide it
