To be fair to the Dems, politics was a little different back then. They probably thought win or lose they could "cross the aisle" and get a lot of shyt done
Also I think the fact Al Gore was essentially a meme back then contributed to the Dems just rolling over. "Al Gore invented the internet", him being clowned for caring about global warming, etc. Somehow Al Gore was viewed less seriously than GB Jr

States that became President. They both knew the ins and outs of legislation. In my opinion where they differed is that Johnson was braver and he knew the consequences of his legislation and he did it anyway. Johnson's actions is what drove Southern Democrats into the Republican Party, but he knew that if he didn't do it he would be letting extremists whole regions of America poor and backwards. The Republicans have trying to roll back his legislation every since.
He was hated in part for being relatively anti war.
