Man, I was drinking tonight watching Sunday Night Football. It occurred to me, this is one of the best songs of all time. I'm from ATL, but this song has to be the best song to capture hood life in an intelligent or poetic way.

This song is just beautiful.

"From a hanging cross with nails
I reinforce the frail with lyrics that's real
Word to Christ a disciple of streets, trifle on beats
I decipher prophecies through a mic and say 'Peace' "

shyt is just :banderas:. What's more remarkable is nikka was 19 comin up with eloquent, vivid, layered rhymes.

I see why Jay, who was 30 at the time, was callin his crib when Nas ain't even give him his number. He needed a style to run with.

Greatest rap song ever IMO

"I hung around the older crews while they sling smack to dingbats
They spoke of Fat Cat, that nikka's name made bell rings, black
Some fiends scream, about Supreme Team, a jamaica queens thing
Uptown was Alpo son, heard he was kingpin, yo"

This was a good 8 years before Ghetto Quran

Amazing song, his performance on there ranks high period; not just in Hip-Hop.

Kills me when we get these young rappers Nae-Nae-ing and shyt, I don't mind - but don't use their age as an excuse for being SIMPLE when we had teenage Nasir's/Ra's/Shyheim's as well.

My absolute favorite Nas song and the best display of lyricism ever. The picture he paints with that last verse.... The first time I heard this song I stopped dead in my tracks sat down and rewinded the cassette a good 5 times b/c I couldn't believe what I just heard and witnessed in my minds eye. Til this day this song still amazes me.
