Can’t explain felt like it was episodic but these movies take a long ass time to make. Didn’t feel expansive enough.

Personal take on this new movie Suicide Squad movie

"The Suicide Squad" is a great looking meh of a movie.

1. The whole Harley/dictator romance was illogical and came out of nowhere. Specifically they did a poor job denoting the two armies in the forest so the whole time I was thinking how in hell did the dictator know the rebels captured Harley. I had to kinda piece it together after the fact
2. If king shark, rats, and Harley with a javelin can pierce & take chunks out of Starro then it should've died after troops opened fire with rifles.
3. The whole hitting Amanda Waller in the head with a golf club and living to tell the tale was nonsense. (especially considering the events of the first movie)
4. I fukking hate "marvel humor" I knew I was in for a ruff ride when they were placing office bets on who would die. The above golf club added to it and the stupid Polkadot Mans mother gag sealed the deal.

This movie could tank for all I care....

That said I can appreciate that it does look great, is the most "comic booky" of comic book movies released yet, and has a very distinct tone/look to it. He really made it his own thing I.E. other than the "marvel humor" it doesn't really look like much anything else.

Suicide Squad as a comica concept is so entertaining and simple, the oldish Justice League cartoon did a kidified version of it and it was arguably one of the best eps in the series. Theyve had animated movies that were fairly decent as well.

Watching the new film here I was thinking it was going to take the flaws of the original and actually make it good but after a good start, the humor was trash, parts of the plot made no sense and had no pacing (Just like the first one) and the movies missed the point of the comic.

I've been convinced for a while that Marvel won as a company decades ago and had been doing victory laps ever since. Comic book movies are about to fall out of style and DC/Warner bros has botched the majority of them.

Smith ( or lack there of ) but because it just looked kinda wack. Previews didn’t make me want more at all.

Nah. MIB 2 and 3 weren't considered that great other but they still did numbers because Will Smith was in them.

The reality is that Will Smith is one of the few box office draws left in Hollywood. Him. DiCaprio as well (The Revenant wouldn't have done $500 million without him). And Tom Cruise.

The mega-star era is ending.

Overall, between all the British actors coming over plus American actors....I think the pool of acting talent is as good if not better than it was 15-20 years ago. The bottom and middle is better......but the top shelf is not as good today.

Mega-star actors can make $$$ and put on a good performance.

Now it's either an actor that makes money (Rock, Kevin Hart etc) or actors that are good but don't bring in the money (Idris).

Suicide Squad was pretty good. It was a very hard R, and the simultaneous releases online are eating into sales. Only the best of the best R movies do big numbers. Top 5 DCU movie easy, though that's a low bar

It was better mainly because Ayer wasn’t able to release the real one

But this one was really good. The problem was it being on HBO as well but them trying to force people to go to movies with the resurgence of the pandemic.

I contemplated on going with a friend but literally said fukk that afterwards. They had “expectations” which is why it flopped

But yeah, Will Smith would’ve made it better but I don’t think it still would’ve lived up to greedy ass WB’s expectations.

Will wasn’t in it though because of scheduling conflicts. He was filming the Venus/Serena movie I believe. Gunn is still signed on to multiple projects.
