He won't say anything. He has had many opportunities in life to go to a good team but turned down for money. He was supposed to be in Original big 3 with Wade and Bron but he took the Nugget extension, he could have joined the Bulls (I know they were trash after) but still he went with the money. He is about money..I don't blame him..money>>> and he can still win a ring, lets see how his career plays out.
I don't get why his desire is measured by his monetary decisions. Maybe Carmelo doesn't start competing til he hits the court, so he doesn't worry about trying to GM his way to making it easier for him to win, like Lebron did/does. Not every player is looking for the easiest road to a championship. Maybe Carmelo, like James Harden, wanted to spend his career as the best player on his team to take on the challenge of leading his team to a championship, instead of teaming up and having other players make it easier for him, especially after leading Syracuse to a championship as a freshman.
Why does it matter whether he chose money over a team with more talent? Who does that hurt? It doesn't take away from his special offensive skill and the great numbers he's put up. As fans we've just been robbed of the opportunity to see him show those skills on the biggest stage.
But that's not his fault, it's the Knicks. They amnestied Billups and signed Tyson Chandler instead of holding onto it, amnestying Amare and going after CP3 the next year. The Knicks insisted on trading for him instead of signing him in free agency and holding onto Wilson Chandler, Mozgov, and Gallinari.
And even then, Melo had to play in the West during the Kobe, Duncan, Dirk era, and in the East in the Big Three Heat & Big Three Cavs era.
It's no knock on Melo that he hasn't won, and I can't say he isn't trying to win.
anyone saying fukk a ring or winning if you're paid has probably never competed before. melo has been playing ball since a kid and won in college and almost made it to the finals while in denver and was at the top one year with the knicks so of course he cares about winning. no one wants to look back at their career and be remembered as the guy who was one of the best in the league to falling off and becoming a liability. it's only a couple of examples but seeing KG, bron and JR Smith after they won a championship says it all.
melo's problem is he still believes he's a #1 option and franchise player when his game is outdated. he's too ball dominant without creating for others and hasn't evolved much as a player (struggles playing off the ball, doesn't set screens or play the PnR). if melo turns into a stretch 4 then he would still be a top player but he doesn't like defending bigs or banging in the paint.
But since joining the Knicks, when has Melo ever played with a better player? When did he ever have the opportunity to defer, like Wade did in Lebron's 2nd year with the Heat?
The Knicks haven't had a better player since he's been there. So it makes sense that he'd rely on his skill over anything else, because he never had better alternatives. I bet he'd defer to Lebron, or be more willing to change his game if he played with Chris Paul.
