Look, I applaud people who LEGIT protest something and stand by it....in fact we need more of that in our society. So this isn't an incendiary post aimed at ridiculing anyone, just FACTS.
But if you profess to be protesting and you're lauding the low numbers for last Thursday night's kickoff game, you should probably be aware of the following info, which is quite interesting:
For all the prolonged talk about how NFL ratings are falling and people are walking away from the game and the direness that is allegedly associated with this situation for the future of NFL viewership, NFL games are STILL the most watched television broadcasts every year, INCLUDING last year, which is being celebrated by its critics as a "down year":
SOURCE: What Were the Most-Watched Shows of the 2016-2017 Season?
...SOOOO, 4 of the top 5 TV shows during the 2016-2017 season were NFL related, with three being games and one being a KICKOFF SHOW.
For crying out loud, Thursday Night Football splits viewership with the NFL Network and they STILL finished second overall for the whole year.
Mind you, this is despite almost everybody - including alotta Y'ALL on this board - complaining about how trash the Thursday night games were last year....apparently the viewers didn't agree.
So all this talk like the supposed boycott is making a difference....the numbers say otherwise. So y'all fighting an uphill battle.
As someone else said in another post, if you really want to boycott the NFL and make a difference where they can feel that impact, then boycott the sponsors of these teams. Boycott Frito-Lay. Boycott Anheuser-Busch. That's when the owners will start to take notice.
But if you think that they're going to take notice simply because you're not watching, the numbers don't bear that out.
