speaking on Guru, he performed in 96/97 at a club close to my university. After the show I seen him leaning on my lab partner's car trying to mack. She was a goddess she was soo fine. She had a boyfriend but it looked like Guru was in there that night. I never brought it up but her entire demeanor seemingly changed.. more confident and shyt. Crazy he probably was gay and getting abused at the time...

The picture gets skewed because it seems like everyone forgets Guru was a fly dude when he was in his heyday. The way he presented himself was something that a lot of educated sisters liked. I've seen him in person chilling with male & female fans trying to kick it with him and to keep it 100% the woman I was with noticed him before I did.

Not only did I grow up on GangStarr (No More Mr. Nice Guy came out when I was in 8th grade) but I met and interviewed Guru in 99 for my magazine. He was drunk and barking on me because Blaze magazine had come out with some top 50 rappers list and he wasn't on it. He was yelling fukk the media! fukk gatekeepers! he felt disrespected (with reason) and eventually calmed down enough to answer my questions. He had not 1 but 2 dimes backstage waiting for him to finish. Sad to see him go out like that with punk ass Solar.

RIP Gifted Unlimited Rhymes Universal. I learned so much from his rhymes as a youth and give thanks I was able to build with him

Guru gets written off as a basic emcee because as his career progressed his style became more basic and aggressive sounding. Knowing now he was dealing with heavy alcoholism, that could have been a byproduct. But he was spitting multi-syllabic raps in a smooth conversational tone back in 1989. I never heard anyone suggest Primo was carrying him until "Hard to Earn".

That's the easy thing to take from this. .most people sleep on manipulators who are gifted. Guru befriended one when he was in a time of need and compromised by alcoholism. Some people go to church or some other support system like Religion but Guru met a snake who exploited him because he knew how to.

It looks like ana abuse relationship because it is. Just like the preacher that be counselling and fukking hoes. Guru prob got close to Solar for the same a$$hole tendencies he would suffer abuse from. Seeking to eradicate his own weakness he sought a partner who showed discipline only it was misplaced in Solar.

Nobody should underestimate how their mental state is affected when they are in crisis. There's people in the world that know how to see you in that state and take advantage
