If there was a singular company that had a strangehold on boxing like UFC has on MMA, it'd be worth waaaaay more than 4th billi

And what are you even trying to get at with the first part??? That's the exact point i was making :dahell:...its alot smaller than i realised, that's all

You were comparing the UFC to soccer, which is silly.

At the end of the day, MMA is a niche sport. 4 Billion for a niche sport is a lot.

I have a ton of respect for Zuffa but I wouldn't mind seeing Coker at the helm if they sell.

I like Coker and what he did with Strikeforce. But his run at Bellator has had him relying too much on freak-show fights.

True, but the hypothetical conclusion I came to is that I believe if a company had the same stranglehold on boxing the way UFC has on mma it'd be worth waaaay more than 4 billi...it just would...that's where "they hsve the nerve" comes from
That's not apples to apples. MMA as we know it today hasn't been along nearly as much as boxing.

I see what you are getting at but ultimately it's two different sports that we should stop trying to compare.

I think that is relative to the product he has.

Good point.

I just think he needs to do a better job of marketing his young and home grown talent. I don't mind freak-show fights and fights between two over the hill legends, as long as it's in moderation but they're taking it too far imo

Let's be real though, they've only had three freak show fights during Coker's two year run so far in Bellator. Kimbo/Ken, Kimbo/Dada and Royce/Ken. The problem is that the fights were booked way too close together and nobody really watches Bellator on Friday nights when they actually feature their young stars.

That Benson card was really fun to watch and featured a lot of their young, home-grown talent, but barely anyone saw it. The 30 min Benson Henderson documentary that Spike produced drew more viewers than the actual card he fought on.

Bonnar/Tito and their Lashley fights are arguably freak-show fights as well.

I think part of the reason for the low ratings is that their young, home-grown talent is largely unknown. They need to be marketed better imo Even Will Brooks has said this.
I just think they need to find a better balance. Yes, put on the occasional fights between two :flabbynsick: fighters and freak-show fights. Because let's be honest, those type of fights bring in ratings. But also promote your young talent. They need to look to future and to do that they need to better job with managing/marketing their young talent.

I forgot about Bonnar/Tito, but that was two years ago. Lashley is a ratings draw for them, but he's not a focal point.

Agree on the point that they need to market their young guys more, and not the nostalgia acts. Kimbo is getting a huge push even though his fight was garbage and he was caught for using roids, I've noticed his Spike mini documentary gets replayed a lot. That's the kind of push they need to give to their young guys like Straus, Patricio Pitbull and Darrion Caldwell. Viacom needs to go all-in on their young talent.

It's a shame because MMA is infinitely more entertaining but it simply lacks the starpower and cross-over appeal. Honestly I hate this whole Reebok bullshyt. It's ruined the whole image. I miss the days where it was like a bad ass fringe-mainstream thing, people rocking shorts with all different sponsors on them. Now UFC feels like a shytty semi-corporate shytfest
this is why I think the UFC hit its peak

like what is there to do except for the cheap expansion to the middle east and asia? the edge has already worn off, fights are on basically weekly, cards are already watered down

before the 'stars' people would watch UFC cause it was UFC and you were guaranteed a good product with good fighters and exciting fights. now we have mma journalists admitting they wouldnt be watching every fight if it wasn't their job

UFC owes money which is the real reason they're trying to sell the company.

Its the real reason their fight ranking makes no sense.

They owe, and they arent making dough, so UFC? Gotta go :camby:
