You mention Self Destruction as if BDP first album wasn't on some high key gangster shyt. :wtf: There was plenty of gangster music in the mid to late 80's. "9mm Goes Bang" influenced Spice 1, one of the most prolific gangster rappers of all time, to try to recreate that song his entire career. And if we're honest, NWA was blatantly influenced by BDP from their whole all black everything look to their unremorseful vulgar approach to Rap music. And Ice T was on that gangster shyt too. And as far as underground shyt goes, undergrond West Coast shyt was always more raw and street oriented in the late 80's. :birdman:I know being from the Bay. Hugh EMC and 415 from the Bay were making hard street music for the d boys back in that 89' era. Snoop admittedly was heavily influenced by 415 and Richie Rich and even rapped on some of the same beats (i.e. "G'z and Hustlaz" is that same beat as "Snitches and bytches"). Maybe d boys on the East Coast were listening to "Bonita Applebum" and a slanging dope, but West Coast rap already had trap music before they called it that by the late 80's.

:stopitslime:

You out to damn mind if you think nikkas wasn’t bumpin no Tribe Called Quest on the West Coast (LA & The Bay) back then.

That nikka X Raided said he was listening to TRIBE CALLED QUEST when he went and MURDERED SOMEBODYS MOMMA that he just got out from a 26 year bid from. You really sitting here telling me nikkas wasn’t listening to Tribe you out yo mind!

Next you gone tell me nikka wasn’t bumping Public Enemy wile sold dope too huh?

“Lil nikka double goose EK frames,
Rockin sway Bally shoes like I’m Danna Dane,
Wile I was banging Chuck D & Flava Flav,
My OGs cuttin D with a razor blade...”

I remember like it was yesterday baller nikkas bumpin MC HAMMER Let’s Get It Started in they 5.0s IN THE BAY AREA. Betta go ask yo O.Gs nikka. MC HAMMER had the town crackin with that song!

You must not be from that era AT ALL. I can tell you probably wasn’t born around that era to be talking like that. Besides NWA Dopeman or Kurtis Blow Whitelines there was no “DopeBoy music” you fuking idiot. Dope Boys was listening to MC HAMMER , Beastie Boys, LL Cool J, EPMD, Rakim etc mid to the late 80s. Then started listening to NWA, Tribe Called Quest, 3rd Bass, X Clan etc in the early 90s. Fools was selling dope wile listening to Self Destruction and All In The Same Gang!
shut yo lame ass up riding hammers nuts. Hammer was top 40 AT BEST. U would get laughed off the block pulling up bumping that nicca. U such a try hard u didn’t even mention THE REAL gangster shyt :mjlol:
Geto boys? :stopitslime:
Fuk kinda nicca argues over hammer and third bass:mjlol: on a hip hop forum.

You must be half retardant little nikka. THE TOPIC IS ABOUT 3rd BASS AND DID THE HOOD LISTEN TO THEM. I said yea they did just like dope boys they was bumping MC Hammer let’s get it started song.

Y’all went all the way left on some “Gangster rap already exist so they wasn’t bumpin no East coast music in the bay” or what ever the fuk.

:mindblown:

Then here you come mentioning geto boys and sht. Go take yo meds and ask yo OGs if they fked with 3rd bass. It’s a 90% chance try start saying “Gaas face” when you ask them.

:pachaha:

But all about dope boys wasn’t fking with Tribe Called Quest back then?

“I always wish we would have worked together with A Tribe Called Quest, you understand me? Cause "Bonita Applebum" and all that — I used to slap that in my Cutlass. Slappin' that thang, for real. I had a trunk full of throb in my car, man. Fosgate speakers. Zeus amp.”.......E-40

Facts. He was a respected lyricist. He killed the verses on most of the singles. Especially Steppin To The AM and Wordz Of Wisdom.

hard as the hardest chinese arithmetic was a dope beginning to a rhyme, he murdered wordz of wisdom. and personality wise he killed me at the beginning of brooklyn queens video when he told the redbone to step off because she didn't buy him the rings on his fingers. him and serch calling each other soupy and coca was pretty funny too

his solo shyt wasn't it at all though, i was disappointed. kick the bobo? :dead:

But back to the topic. Yea 3rd bass did get love in the hood back in the days. Even all the dancing serch did was dope back then because nikkaz was dancing like a muthafkka too. This was around the time MC Hammer came out with Lets Get It Started and all the Dope Boys in the hood was fking with that MC Hammer album back then. At least on the West Coast they did. Stepping To The Am, Brooklyn Queens, Gas Face & Pop Goes The Weasel got major play in the hood.

NYC acknowledged Hammers 1st album on some hip hop shyt not really on some radio play shyt......Me being into Fresh, Black Beat and Word Up magazines they were the ones who first put me on....I was reading about Hammer before I ever heard his music.....Hammer came out in 88 but Lets Get It Started didnt play on on VMB till 89,..... Pump It Up, Put Me In The Mix, Turn This Mutha Out became in the rotation on BET by 89... By the 2nd album Hammer became a phenom.

At the time I didnt understand why 3rd bass and DOC were taking shots at Hammer.

I fukked with Dust To Dust. The NY sound changed, along with not working with Sam Sever any more. Kick The Bobo was one of worst songs on it, it was the "radio single", if you consider that one.

true it did have some joints, i'm being a little unfair. i liked rat b*stard (remember the video? lol) and a few other joints but i expected more from pete i guess

it's funny how quickly the sound can change in hip hop, they debut in 89 and were cutting edge. 4 years later people were looking at them like they were old school. 93 was black moon, wu, onyx, das efx, redman, puba....

speaking of sam sever he's a dope producer that never gets talked about. kinda like chyskillz. wonder why their work trailed off...
