Creole has never been soul food. Just like Jerk or any carribbean dish isn't soul food.
:rudy: I almost negged you. The cuisine of black Americans, broadly, until further notice, is 'soul food.' Many different regional cuisines fall under that umbrella.

Mama, culinary institutions around the globe ain't teachin' upcomin' chefs to hook a mac & cheese in the soul food style. That was my point.
We're severely under-capitalized. That doesn't mean our food isn't on the global stage. Popeyes is everywhere. Korean fried chicken, an FBA derivative, is everywhere. I'm sure I can find more.

Other than fried chicken, pork ribs, and macaroni (homemade not that shyt out of the box) you can have the rest of that ish.

You have those collard greens, black eyed peas, hot water cornbread, candy yams, pig feet and the rest of that….

I ate so much of that growing up. I’ll eat it now on occasion, but it is never my first choice.
It's always my 1st choice when not on keto. Hell I just made a pot of Pinto Beans and tryna fight not to ravage it cause Imma be on the toilet getting my guts cleaned out lol

Nobody thinks of Creole as soul food outside of Louisiana.

Crayfish and shrimp is not soul food. Go to any soul food restaurant and they handing you a plate of yams, greens, Mac n cheese, cornbread, and fried chicken.

Not gonna lie. Been wanting to go down to Louisiana to try the real crayfish, gumbo, po boy sandwich, catfish and that Louisiana fried chicken. That Cajun food that Popeyes emulates but its not the REAL thing. The culture with the voodoo, second line and the jazz but that food though.

Over seasoned, salted and fried.

Still very tasty, but not as refined as some European or Asian cuisine. :mjpls:

That is the main difference, I’d put take away Chinese food up against soul food, but when you start going to actual Chinese or HK restaurants in their respective countries, it’s a wrap.

I’d personally put Japanese grub over them all; both the sloppy and refined stuff. Also Italian refined food in Italy is baby GOAT tier. Made me do the :banderas: in real life.

Plus Greek, Turkish, Lebanese, Moroccan food…smh. Mans hungry now.

I don't trust nikkas palate that say tasty

No its not. Nobody who asks for soul food is expecting a bucket of crayfish, shrimp, corn, and sausage. nikkahs outside of NO will look at you crazy. :russ:

With that said, Creole is pretty GOAT, from my limited experience. Though I will say its also limited.

Edit carribbean food is good too, but im limited on the possibilities

For folks in the south that havealso spent time in CA are sould food spots down there like taco shops in California? I think they'd do well here in socal but they're few and far between. I rather go to my grandma or aunt's house than most of the takeout spots.

What’s all included in “soul food”, like all the dishes then maybe we can come to a consensus

:mjlol: I'm literally growing black eyed peas, collards, and mustards.

I cook everything: Chinese, Japanese, Indian, Spanish, Dominican, Italian, French, etc, bc my man is deathly allergic to onions, but I also try to re-invent my native cuisine, soul food. I come from a long lineage of chefs and married into a family that had owned a soul food restaurant back in the day.

How do you get 'bored' of your own food? I never heard nobody of no other ethnicity say that weird shyt. I'm starting to think we have another issue...

Most of that other food tastes the same across the board for the most part. Obviously, mom and pop pizza places are better than chain pizza, and mom and pop family owned Mexican places are better than Taco Bell, and Chipotle. But not everyone can cook good greens, and mac and cheese.
