At first I was unsure... with Abel because he gave us literally 3 classics in a row, we know he is capable of dropping pretty much flawless material, but the guy is really challenging himself nowadays to find the balance between his original sound, growing artistically and creating good pop music that is authentic. Given his previous efforts this isn't an easy feat, but when you actually let this sit, you can see here he is very nearly there...this album comes across honest but not forced, fresh but not too foreign, but moreover he prob remains as artistic as he has ever been now he is a popstar... Faith may be the version of this new him, this is him pretty much owning his sound.. few corny moments but I see the growth and look forward to sitting on this more

I wasn't expecting much but I love it. it's pretty great.

this his best effort, album wise. most cohesive since KissLand.
Too Late, Hardest To Love, Escape From LA, Repeat After Me and After Hours are my favorites.

you're all bugging...Hardest To Love might be the best song on the album with Escape From LA a close second.

that little Elton John bit on Scared To Live is cute..took me a minute to catch it.
Heartless is still awful. a parody of himself for the people that post coke taking gifs. they dressed it up better for the album though.
Snowchild is pretty bad too...what he wrote on there he would've threw that away to a rapper for their single. pure mid.

good to see how involved in it Illangelo was. I feel like Oneohtrix Point Never/Daniel Lopatin had a big influence in the end results of the album after getting involved. it says he's only contributed to a few songs but it feels like he had input in just about every song in the end product.

I would like him to get back in the R&B bag but at the same time he started off singing over indie/electronic music.

the usual

repetitive vapid empty lyrics wrapped in bleeding edge production & studio magic

in hindsight he's never really been the star of his own music

the visuals & soundscapes obscure that fact

it is perfect for the plastic airheaded masses & all that bs self inflicted ennui

i can enjoy it but the level of stanley shenanigans around abel is jokes though nikka tell some new stories you sappy fake sad fukk ha

you just killed all the Toronto boys in that first bar ahaha

Abel is to males as to what Lana Del Rey is to females.
except Lana has actually went from a blatant character to doing a decent job humanizing herself more.

thank you for the correction.

I just completed the head phones, listening during day time and listening during a night drive. This album is flames. Easily better than BBM and more streamlined than Starboy.

I wasn’t a fan of snow child and would of preferred it cut in half is my only gripe with this album. This pop synth wave shyt is really hitting. I was surprised at the drum n bass song. Top two tracks for me are after hours and in your eyes.

The album is decent but I get the criticisms. Abel still sounds great, has the formula down to a science and is highly successful at it but I thought with this new look, with the album cover looking gruesome...

I thought he would go back to the OG trilogy days or do something new.

Instead its more of the same stuff. I know Max Martin helped Abel achieve stardom by producing some of his biggest songs but his production style just sounds so generic/manufactured that it makes the weekend even more souless than he already sounds.

Abel never was the soulful type to boot...but his music back in the beginning stages was more "human" if that makes sense.

I think we just gotta come to grips that the weekend is a pop star making pop music now...those trilogy days are done. The 80 synth pop sound is cool and he's pretty much perfected that style but I want to hear him on something more stripped back (maybe some piano chords, acoustic guitars, etc) where he can really bare his emotions.

Michael always reinvented himself
Prince always reinvented himself

I feel like the weekend isn't doing that but I still walked away with 6 songs I liked which is half the album almost.

You downplay the Weeknd and big up LDR when they are essentially the same artist thematically?

Lana like Abel has had the same exact shtick since her inception (tortured vapid lolita interspersed with americana longing and retarded lyrics) just like abel has been on his cutting edge hedonistic vampire shyt. Only difference between the two is The weeknd is coming with sleeker sounds and trying to progress and perfect his sound while Lana went with the grammy bait route with that tired garbage wannabe Joni Mitchell album. Norman fukking Rockwell was middling as fukk to me and I been on her since when videogames had less than 10k views :ld:

Goddamn, man-child
You fukked me so good that I almost said "I love you"

You're fun and you’re wild
But you don't know the half of the shyt that you put me through

oh yeah. her pen is so much more thoughtful, they basically the same artist Abel just can actually fukking sing and makes vastly better music:heh:
