This is actually really good - that more refined Kissland sound? Maybe he finally figured it out - how to do old weeknd vibes but be progressive pop? 
I think he leaned too far one way or another and felt compromised but this sounds actually geniune... its almost as if he wrote the song first and then the beat came second, didn't choose to write a pop song first. Look forward to the project
