Dude wants money and fame which is why he signed to a major. He just wants people to think he doesn't. Same goes for Kanye. If all you give a shyt about is the music then you don't sign your soul to the Jews to distribute your art when you can do it yourself via the internet.

Which is why I say drop the "I'm all about the art" shyt. He's no different than any other nikka in the game in regards to motives of making music. He wants the money and the fame. Only difference is he's convinced his fan base that he doesn't.

Weeknd will do waaaay more than 60k first week breh at least triple that...I can see him doing 250 and with the right single even more, I think Indicud is the perfect example to compare Kissland as far as commercial success goes. Weird abstract artist, no radio single and dont have the cosign of the bigger artist who they were initially under (Kanye/Drake) and Indicud did 140k first week, I think the Weeknd has a larger following than Cudi and since this is his debut album, that'll be even more hype for it

Dude is bigger overseas than he is in the States. Same goes for Kelly Rowland which is why she flops here but sells out concerts in the UK.

Don't get me wrong, I like Kiss Land but I don't think it's a hit, though I could be wrong there.His album will do good numbers, but he's gonna have to do some major work to stay relevant in the coming years. He needs to show some versatility as the HOB-style production is just a trend and will die off/evolve within a year or two.
