nah i dont think thats it. I think he has good work ethic. Dude or his handlers really micromanages his brand .... He puts out music on a schedule .. Never tries to flood the market for a buzz .. he like kendrick believes in the qualify of the music will maintain his spot in music.
Dude still has yet to do a formal interview as "The Weeknd" ....... He told French He couldn't film him for his BTS for that song on his album ... Told Drake x Juicy that his face wasn't suppose to be shown in studio videos .. very concious about his image and him being exposed.... dude doesn't do press at all. He's also very particular on where he performs and what songs he'll do. Turned down crazy amount of tours in the last 2 years. He turned down a chance to interview for one of the UK's biggest TV shows for music artists .. only choosing to perform 4 songs in his instudio series .
He's playing the "mystery" factor really big time ... I mean most of his fans don't even know what his speaking voice sounds like. He resold free material and went Gold off it. I think thats winning.
He'll never be a Drake as in being mainstream ... but his lane right now he has it locked ...
The less we know about him the more ppl wonder and speculate .. creates intrigue and buzz.

i like that mysterious aura or mystic about a person that causes you to try to figure them out or gives you the impression that the artist is more concerned about putting out great ART instead of BIG NUMBERS (fame).
Nas, Rakim, Ghostface, Prince and Portishead all had that and i loved the way they handled thier careers as well as thier music.
IT WASN'T ALL THIS "IN YOUR FACE' PROMOTION...you had to SEEK them out like an ACQUIRED TASTE...........
It's like fine clothing you have to go to certain boutique or location it ain't all MASS PRODUCED AND AVAILBABLE like some fukking SOUTHPOLE or BOOTLEG POLO BRAND......
