I don't know about all that. As I recall, there was more of an Internet campaign of "forcing" Frank on the people than anything else. The Coli and the other site are the first places I ever seen him mentioned. When he was droppin' mixtapes, people were quick to put him up in the ranks with legends. Then came the guest spots on Beyonce's album and WTT and the Frank Ocean campaign was in full effect. It wasn't until he came out literally that it kind of died down.

Whether you support gays, are against gays, or you're indifferent, to deny that there is a CLEAR agenda going on to promote and push homosexuality in the media is flat out ridiculous. It's everywhere and it's not a coincidence, nor is it just "natural progression."

Tuned into American Idol last week and literally 70% of the male auditions are gay. There's a sitcom called "The New Normal" that's about a gay couple raising a kid. Almost every sitcom, or reality tv show has at least one gay if not multiple.

Male on male kissing - something that hardly ever happened on TV before - occurs regularly and is treated like it's normal and no big deal.

This kinda stuff isn't innocent in it's intentions. It's not random. There's an agenda here. I don't think it's just targeted towards blacks though. It's all races, but blacks are definitely getting the bulk of it. shyt is peculiar to say the least.

Also, people dumbing down Frank's artistry because he's gay are bugging. That dude is a fukking genius with the pen. I consider him the Lupe Fiasco of R&B in how he approaches his lyrics and themes. An amazing talent who deserves all the accolades he's gotten and has coming to him.

With that said, I can't bump Forrest Gump. That song is just a lil too gay for me. The rest of the album is great though and I can dig it because he isn't so direct with the gay theme. It's universally relate able music. Forrest Gump is not.

Lastly, I just want to say that some of you people saying "nobody can force you to do something/like something" are giving humanity in general way too much credit.

Some of you may be too intelligent to fall for trusted brainwashing tactics, but many are not. To act like music, popular television shows, movies and celebrities don't have a profound effect on people's behavior doesn't make sense. History proves it does. We prove it does.

No, Frank Ocean may not directly make a straight nikka want to turn gay, but subconsciously the seed is planted that homosexuality is normal and can reap positive benefits. When this is reinforced through homosexual activity presented in black culture on a regular basis, I believe it can have evoke potentially homosexual activity from a young, impressionable, and CONFUSED mind.

The shyt is subtle. These agendas are hardly ever super direct - especially not to the unobservant and stupid.

And both sides must stop acting like the end game is necessarily a nikka putting his dikk in another nikka's booty. It doesn't have to be that. Just softening and feminizing the black male is damaging enough. I know plenty of nikkas who are defintiely not gay but are extremely feminine in their attitudes, their fashion and beliefs. The emasculation of black men does not automatically mean we all will be gay in 20 years. Those who aren't gay will probably be soft as fukk though. A lack of a strong male presence in the household + the media presenting emasculated black idols to look up to = we're in trouble. The odds are stacked against us too heavily as it is. nikkas acting like bytches is only going to make things worse.

If I had a dime for every lame I know who started smoking after Wiz Khalifa put out Kush & OJ or claimed blood affiliation so they could be more like their hero Lil Wayne, I'd have a fukk load of dimes. People are stupid and easily impressionable. Yes they can be subtly told to do things with success.

I don't buy bisexuality and I never will. You are either straight, gay, or confused. This inbetween shyt is a joke to me.

Frankly(no pun intended), I wouldn't be surprised if Frank Ocean isn't gay at all and just said that shyt for attention/to make a statement/fight for gay rights.

How are gays any different from blacks or other minorities in the sense that they were once denied opportunities and persecuted and over time society had become more and more accepting of them to the point that they have the same opportunity to make something of themselves without being held back because of who they are.

You could easily call Rap finally getting a grammy category, or blacks winning oscars, decades ago and whatnot the media pushing some kind of "agenda" (Well you wouldn't, but skinheads and racist white people do).

Why the fukk is giving a gay guy an award, or allowing gay people to participate in American Idol some kind of fukking agenda as opposed to people no longer judging your, or being held back because of their sexual orientation?

What's wrong with accepting people for who they are, didn't we at some point in time want the same for ourselves? Why deny the gays the same thing while having to wear our tin foil Yankee fitted backwards?

No disrespect brother, but I can't rock with this. I have zero tolerance for race based prejudice and the HORRIFIC struggles our black ancestors went through being compared to the gay struggle. As a black man, please do not buy into this comparison because they are not remotely close no matter how much you are guilt tripped by homosexuals, "open-minded" whites or ignorant blacks unaware of their history into believing them to be.

Gays were never enslaved, denied access to school, businesses, water fountains or killed on a mass scale just for being born a skin color that wasn't white. They have their basic rights, and at the end of the day you are not going to convince everyone that homosexuality is something you're born with. Some may say that, but many feel it is a lifestyle choice and not an inevitability like race.

Do I believe gays should be mistreated, hurt or viewed as monsters? Absolutely not. They are people just like heterosexuals and deserve love, compassion, and understanding, but they are not the equivalent of being a race, nor is their struggle the equivalent of ours - past tense or present tense.

Lastly, try not to use the phrase "minority" breh. Blacks are not minorities. Nor are Asians, Hispanics, Arabs, etc. It is a phrase used to imply inferiority, less importance, "equal but unfavorable"-ness to the majority - whites. Just because there might be less of us in this continent or in the UK doesn't mean on a global scale there are less of us, so let's not dumb ourselves down by buying into a word that is subliminally used as a synonym for second-rate.

I agree with you that in the past homosexuality wasn't discussed or displayed on TV. But keep in mind that on shows from the 50s and 60 they used to have separate beds in the bedrooms of married couples.

In the same way that married couples of that generation were ALWAYS sharing beds - I think homosexuality, which seems "forced" on us now because it had been intentionally hidden for so long, was always around - just underground. If anything - the prevalence of gay characters and themes is probably just a reflection of what has been reality for quite some time.

Great post. I don't agree with everything you say here - but you are cutting rhrough a lot of the "talking past" each other that has been going on in this thread.

I agree with you that media and society influences us all. What it boils down to is:

1. Is sexual orientation something a person is "born" with?
2. Can people be pressured into engaging in behavior contrary to their sexual orientation through society/media?
3. Can effeminate men be good role models for their sons/daughters?

IMO - the answer to #1 is yes - but the science is inconclusive (is my understanding - I don't make it a point to follow up on every study in this area). The answer to #2 is yes to a degree - we see this already with the prevalence of women kissing each other at bars/clubs. The question is how many of those "straight" women end up lesbians? The answer to #3 is yes. Although - I'm really not sure what people mean by "strong" and "masculine" at this point?
