Gamecube had some great games though, this is looking more like childrens franchise gimmicks that barely qualify as games

I have been saying that since the original Wii was announced. Nintendo is on its Fisher Price/Tiger handheld style these days...they have to rely on gimmicks and "new ways" to play. They can't compete because some of their decisions are so ridiculous that its incredible to me that they have made it this far.

For as "successful" the Wii was, in the end it might have caused more damage to Nintendo than people realize. Many gamers don't even take them seriously anymore.

Probably the same type people that was shytting on the PS3 right after it launched. I remember being one of the few people defending it at that time. The Wii U is fine. It'll do what I expect it to do. I bought this as a secondary system not a main.

People took shots at the PS3 because of how expensive it was, not because it did not look promising

Maybe you are joking, but many people are thinking the new controller just attaches to the old Wii.

This is a fukking disaster from any angle you want to look at it. That auction I linked up ended for $385...that's about $14 more than I would have paid in store and at best that guy broke even (most likely lost some money)

I bet Microsoft and SONY are taking notes because I am sure they were thinking of dropping the numbers for the next xbox and PlayStation.

Just look at the franchises the came out with this gen alone compared to Nintendo and MS.

I don't want Nintendo to fail. I am just pointing out all the facts

Sony lost its head with the PS3 launch in efforts to win the next media format battle. This was already after the fact that the XBOX 360 had a year head start and was selling considerably less. I think the xbox even had a holiday bundle when the PS3 was released if I am not mistaken.

Obviously Microsoft had the right strategy going in, drop a cheaper console first and continue to build out their online system to build the community. Once you have a large community and you combine the fact that the PS3 was selling at $500-$600...its clear to see why Microsoft jumped ahead and kept that lead steady. Once you build a friends list on a platform...its hard for people to jump over after "jumping in". The whole marketing behind the 360 was genius from the very start.

People need to realize that this market is not really about fanboys...you are all a very small percentage in the big picture. Sony arguably had the most momentum going into a launch with the PS3 than anyone ever had and tested it...and failed to fully capitalize on it. The PSX and PS2 were MONSTERS that killed Sega in less than 7 years.

I told people on SOHH that SONY made the wrong gamble with that blu-ray shyt...yeah they "WON" the media format war...but now everything is going digital. The PlayStation brand was more important than an obsolete business model...now we have a console (Vita) which sells all their retail games online at a discount...like I said they would.-

wii u will do just fine. by the time the 720 and ps4 hit the stores the wii-u will be a cheaper alternative with a larger game library. wii-u was designed to keep costs down for nintendo, while also making it possible for third party ports. its a profit based system. all they gotta do to sell it is bring some must have exclusives which will most likely come in the form of first party titles.

as far as specs, the reason nintendo doesn't focus on specs these days is because N64 was twice as powerful as PS but they got wiped. ever since then they have focused on keeping their costs down with a focus on a more casual fanbase.

Noway N64 was twice as powerful as PSX.. it didnt even have a disc to store large data lol, N64 produced polygons more smoothly but it didnt render 3D graphics the same.
