Both Uruguay and Portugal are mediocre and rely on CR7/Suarez. I can see this game going to extra time.

Uruguay has looked like the better team through three games. Portugal is mid, but let Iran hang around too long. Needed to get in their ass with the talent disparity.

Ronaldo missing the penalty has large ramifications. They have the toughest route to the final if they make it past Uruguay where Spain has the easiest.

Isco is having a very good world cup. Doesn't he play on the wing for Real?

When he gets to play as the #10 :banderas:

Uruguay still have Godin and Gimenez. Suarez first game was abysmal, he was getting fed and kept making mistakes. The common thing about both teams is an average midfield which forces them to play on the counter and defensive.

There hasn't been a 0-0 so far in the group stages. It also helps that non of the top teams look like running away with it unlike what Germany was doing in 2010/14 or Argentina in 06. I don't think it would have been a shock if Portugal missed the next round either given how they have been set up.

No World Cup has topped this in terms of excitement but I just don't think the quality is there. Every team is massively flawed.
True . Brazil, Germany, and Spain playing worse than expected. France we always knew with Deschamps that they could turn up the way they did. Argentina and Portugal line ups are serious downgrades from what they usually put out. It is still group stages so it might get tighter going forward. France 98 had the best knockout rounds with Argentina-England, Denmark-Nigeria, Brazil-Denmark, Argentina-Netherlands and the run made by the Croatian team.
