Yes but the handful of games played in the world cup shouldn't determine the greatness of a player. Consistent performance over hundreds of games, season after season at the highest level (which means club level) is what's important.

No its not. Especially when its a player who is at Real Madrid or Barcelona and plays most of the time against teams with far less talent. Those teams Messi and Ronaldo play on are essentially all-star teams. Its not until the quarterfinals of the Champions League that they even play a worthy opponent that is close to them in talent.

No. The world cup is a much better tool for evaluating greatness than club soccer. How come? Because in most cases talent is more widely spread. And that should allow the very best players to emerge better than they would in club soccer when they play on an all-star team against a team with far less talent.
