I live there now, there are beautiful Black neighborhoods and great suburbs, and the job market is strong in certain fields.
If you're not coming with a career though, there are far better places:wow:
:ohhh: This is the most positive thing I've ever seen someone say about Cleveland on here.

5. Michigan
> Pct. residents black: 13.9% (15th highest)
> Black homeownership rate: 40.8% (16th highest)
> Black incarceration rate: 1,682 per 100,000 (15th highest)
> Black unemployment rate: 11.6% (6th highest)

Based on social and economic gaps between black and white residents, few states are worse for African Americans than Michigan. Gross segregation and inequalities in the Detroit metro area contribute to the state’s poor ranking. By using race to determine home loan eligibility, the FHA deliberately segregated the Detroit area over the course of the mid-20th century. To this day, a wall built in 1940 along 8 Mile Road to separate white and black neighborhoods serves as a reminder of the area’s history of segregation. The wall no longer separates black and white residents, but the city remains one of the most segregated in the country.
Across Michigan, black residents are considerably more likely than white residents to live in poverty. Close to 33% of black people in the state live in poverty versus less than 12% of whites.

They never lied. Detroit is just a sad state of affairs when you think about. So many abandoned homes and very few good neighborhoods to live in. If you do find a good neighborhood you will have about 2-3 nice houses and then a abandoned home right next to them. Then for the people that live downtown Dan Gilbert & Co. basically drove the people out of their homes by drive the rent prices up forcing them to move. I already spoke about the rent prices in Detroit so I'm not going there. Mike Duggan is worried more about fixing downtown instead of doing something with the neighborhoods in Detroit. Then you got governor that has done nothing but made cuts across the board ever since he's been in office. Then there's the water poison crisis in Flint that the politicians are getting away with.

Then if you're looking for a job in Michigan there really are no jobs in the city of Detroit most of the jobs are outside the city. It makes things no better that "Right To Work" law was passed about four years ago either. If you don't have transportation to get outside the city to go to work then you're fukked. If you do get a vehicle in Michigan you're going to paid at least $900-1000 a month for car insurance along with whatever car note you have to pay. Michigan is just not the place to be if you want to go far in life. If I get an opportunity to leave Michigan to go somewhere else I might take it.

bruh yall love making it seem like nikkas in Detroit is so hopeless

maybe cuz its how and who i grew up with and around

funny part is most places i ever been to outside michigan... nikkas are FOR REAL broken mentally

detroit nikka can go anywhere in the world and come up...detroit nikkas NEVER been broke or broken

some of yall need a history lesson

the biggest problem with detroit is the black people with money/power ran to the suburbs.... its not because of white people

i would even say we got less racial tensions than alot of places...example look at how these nikkas cry all day everyday about white people and racism

alot of black money/power that was concentrated here left...look at ATL,cali, fl, tx, nyc and you gone find alot of detroit/michigan people...40 years ago we had like 1.8 million people....20 years ago a million...now we got like 700k lmao
..its only natural we was gonna fall off hard bro

but to say this one of the worst states for black people is a lie bruh real talk, nikkas can actually do some damage in michigan if we wanted to

Born and raised in Milwaukee, WI. 53026 area code at that.
Graduated from UW-Madison and had to leave directly after that.
Funny enough, I moved to Minneapolis. Which, to me at the time was wayyyy better than MKE.
Live in Chicago now. I visited Hyde Park and walked around where Barack met Michelle.
The numbers for the Chi can be misleading because there's a lot of black excellence in the city.

But yeah, Wisconsin is backward's in too many ways to name. One of the main reason its so bad for black people is because it's actually pretty bad for White people too.

People that have never been to Chicago have preconceived notions about Chicago. Common sense should probably tell them that Chicago has to be an excellent City for Black people, because the City has produced a President; 2 Black Senators; one the Country's first Black mayor's; some of Country's most well known Civil Right's leaders (Farakhan, Malcolm X, Elijah Muhammad and Jessie Jackson); one of the richest Black women (Oprah Winfrey); one of richest athletes (Michael Jordan); Muhammad Ali also lived there for a while; on and on and on. Cook County which is the county that Chicago is located is the top county for Black owned businesses in the USA.

Their criteria sucks. They aren't factoring the number of black people in the state.

North Dakota, Wyoming, Utah, all should be on there before Illinois.

The top 10 states with the highest black incarceration rates should all be listed. You don't want to live some place where the cops are working extra hard to meet quotas. In fact, surprised New York isn't on there.

Fleeing? Nope.

Having negative population growth? Yep.

Most African Americans in Chicago are originally from the South. A lot of older African Americans return back South after they retire from their jobs. A lot of younger African Americans already had connections to the South, because of their parents and grandparents. So it not unusual for African Americans to go back South and a lot of them might return back to Chicago.

You can make it sound nice but African Americans (everyone really) are fleeing chicago and other northern cities for cheaper, warmer locales :yeshrug:

Yeah but alot of us will remain on the plantation and wonder why cops are shooting us in record numbers.

Crime has gone down yet more people are going to prison. Yeah that makes perfect sense (sarcasm)

In the long term, violent crime in the United States has been in decline since colonial times.[6] However, during the early 20th century, crime rates in the United States were higher compared to parts of Western Europe. For example, 198 homicides were recorded in the American city of Chicago in 1916, a city of slightly over 2 million at the time. This level of crime was not exceptional when compared to other American cities such as New York, but was much higher relative to European cities, such as London, which then had three times the population but recorded only 45 homicides in the same year.[7]

After World War II, crime rates increased in the United States, peaking from the 1970s to the early 1990s. Violent crime nearly quadrupled between 1960 and its peak in 1991. Property crime more than doubled over the same period. Since the 1990s, however, crime in the United States has declined steeply.

Walking through Hyde Park for the first time this weekend really blew this Wisconsinites mind.
Lots of diversity and successful black-owned businesses.
Seeing shyt like this marked as historical monuments.
