The extreme shopping panic is OTT
aSaying people need to buy x,y,z immediately is just making shelves go empty. What are people genuinely going to do with 36 rolls of toilet paper?!
There is no advice or any sense in buying 4-6 weeks of food. No shut down of anything has been confirmed and the only reason we’ll struggle getting water, toilet roll or food anytime soon is because of people fear-shopping

Ready for anything. When the announcements come, hysteria kicks in, and it’s hard to get supplies. If you always have a good stock, you won’t be in a position of not having what you need if something pops off. It’s like waiting until you get cut to buy bandaids. If you already had the bandaid, you wouldn’t be driving to the store with a bloody finger wrapped in a paper towel

But what announcements? If you’ve Ben tracking, it’s only countries that have not managed the situation properly that are having lock downs.
Even adjacent countries to China have not had lock downs, but the have lots of testing and infections.
This is why many experts and governments are not saying that there will be a guaranteed shyt down/lock in of cities.

FYI in Metro Philly/NJ as of last night the following items were stocked out at most grocery stores
bottled water (except distilled)
pasta/pasta sauce
Frozen vegetables & fruits
Meats
Chicken soup
Vinegar
Milk
Eggs
Some types of cereal
Plan accordingly

The lockdown isn't necessary for hoarding. A lot of people will be working remotely and having kids at home since schools are getting cancelled. They are hoarding since they need extra food for breakfast/lunch as well as an emergency supply. Do what you want but you can always eat surplus food later.
