I used to be like you breh. shyt just seemed like random noise to me. But one day it'll all make sense. And when it does, you'll never listen to music the same way again. Jazz musicians are easily the most highly skilled musicians on the planet and you'll gain that appreciation one day.

But to start getting into serious jazz (coz George Benson isn't serious jazz in my opinion), start with some of the simpler tunes, like jazz covers of some old songs that you might know.

Follow one instrument at a time. Start with the horn. Next listen, follow the drums. Next listen, follow the piano. Etc.

It depends, sometimes it depends on your mood. Sometimes the mood of the musicians is obvious in how they play. Some songs cats are just jamming out and you just get caught up in that. Other times nikkas are literally bleeding onto the track and you feel that shyt in your soul.

When I was getting into jazz, first time I listened to Naima by Coltrane, I got all teary eyed for no reason breh




Come to find out it was a song dedicated to his wife. I didn't know that at the time, but even without words I felt that shyt and was moved.

I agree jazz can be hard to get into and require the right mood for you to "get it." Definitely don't stand with the most complex free jazz. Just listen for mood.

There are all kinds of Jazz feelings you probably need to listen to a more groove based/less imrpov/technical style. Something like Soul-Jazz and Jazz-Funk

Learning Guitar specifically to play Jazz as well as the blues, I was learning classical guitar before that but I stopped for like two years.
I'm looking at Jazz because I want to add it into my R&B (Soul, Funk etc.) and Hip-Hop.

I'm a fan of the genre as well but my respect has only increased as I've learned just how much
it takes to be a proficient musician in Jazz music.
It's lead me to @ people who go on about prog rock or experimental rock.
I don't hate those genres or anything but the elitism from these people is especially after

George Benson is without a doubt "serious jazz".
I mean, dude has massive chops on the guitar and influenced many Jazz guitarists.
Much like Joe Pass, Wes Montgomery, Charlie Christian, D'jango Reinhardt etc.

both don't move me like that, but I preferred the Herbie joint. Groove of the piano, especially toward the end at 5:01 where it speeds up.

Listened to all you posted. Jazz aint my genre. I don't know how y'all can listen to them shyts front to back. Some parts are superb but other parts just don't sound good to me. Nautilus is a perfect example. The best parts have already been brought into hip hop. The dull parts? meh. Never been touched or the songs that sampled them didn't grab most peoples' attention

Naima and Tunji are two of my favorite Coltrane tunes, love the fact that he stuck with the Modal style, my favorite type off Jazz.
