ny being dead is :duck:

asap

smoke dza

harry fraud

joey badass and pro era.......

nas holdin it down......hov holdin it down.....

the list goes on.....yall tryin to figure out "why ny fell off" when they solid as fukk right now......

Of course NY hip hop is not "dead". You gotta understand, in the 80's and 90's, NY rap acts could basically form a rap "dream team". Now, it's just a regular team with a few stars on it. And whats also a factor is while NY has come down, other regions have come up, making the gap between NY and other places even smaller.

But know this, NO REGION will ever see the dominance NYC saw in the 80's and 90's, EVER.

Thread starter is on point...People expecting NY to come back to their glory days will be waiting forever..Not just NY but a lot of the major cities in the Northeast or becoming so gentrified that it's causing the Black population to migrate into more rural areas..Where I live in D.C. is a perfect example...Everyone that grew up thugging in the city is now in Northern VA or PG County..

According to the census bureau New York city isn't even in the top 20 when it comes to population of African Americans...How are you ever gonna have a thriving hip hop culture and community when all of the Black people are being pushed out?

A lot of reasons why NY rap fell off. Black folks moving south in record numbers is a major reason. The crack era dying is another one. The rappers of that era getting older is yet another one. The street life is no longer glorified is one. Its like a ton of bricks that toppled the NY reign all at once.

NY fell off because it costs too much to sample. The whole sound was based off of cutting five or more records. They haven't been able to adjust to the new reality.

Maybe it's a work ethic thing. All the major labels and media outlets are based here in New York, so a lot of people might have a mindset of "If I spit for so and so or if I give this track to this DJ then I'll get radio play and a deal" and so on and so on. If you're from a smaller local scene or whatever then you probably have to work harder at building a connection with the public and actually trying to build a real fanbase and becoming a more well-defined artist that people would actually pay money to see/hear.

LMAO at Harlem not being black, Harlem is STILL predominantly black and Puerto Rican. Harlem is still one of the worst neighborhoods in the city. Brownsville, East New York, Bed Stuy are still predominantly black, just the other day a one year old baby got shot in his stroller. The Bronx is a predominantly minority borough with plenty of blacks.

Biggie was the last good NY rapper
This is the second time I see you post this dumb shyt. Jay had his debut after Biggie is he not a great rapper, DMX came out after Biggie and he dominated the whole late 90s and part of early 00s. 50 completely dominated the mid-00s was he not a good rapper?

Yeah but that first wave of white hipsters are definitely living out there to stabilize those places.

To those saying the media is controlling it to let the "ignorant trap simple music guys" prosper. NYC = the media LOL

To whoever said NY rappers are tough guys and mainstream music is soft: exhibit A -ASAP Rocky

To whomever said NYC has the highest black population, look up the term "per capita." NYC has over 5 million residents, what is the black percentage compared to other places? What is it compared to 5 and 10 years ago?

Some people are on point. At one point, NYC was seen as the cultural decider for much of American culture. This is no longer true. shyt all my peers rather be weird and fashionable than tough, 5 percenter dustheads or other 90s NYC archetypes. They like other forms of music that lends to the poppy, artsy sound you see artist veering towards, instead of the boom bap, lyrical raps.
