LMAO at Harlem not being black, Harlem is STILL predominantly black and Puerto Rican. Harlem is still one of the worst neighborhoods in the city. Brownsville, East New York, Bed Stuy are still predominantly black, just the other day a one year old baby got shot in his stroller. The Bronx is a predominantly minority borough with plenty of blacks.

That is horrible and disgusting. May Allah have mercy on her/his precious little soul.

NYC Rap died when their own fans chose Jay-z over Prodigy
Prodigy was right to go at him and fans their dropped the ball

How can be hard when your leader is soft? Prodigy sound IS New York
NYC fans failed the city

Yeah but that first wave of white hipsters are definitely living out there to stabilize those places.

To those saying the media is controlling it to let the "ignorant trap simple music guys" prosper. NYC = the media LOL

To whoever said NY rappers are tough guys and mainstream music is soft: exhibit A -ASAP Rocky

To whomever said NYC has the highest black population, look up the term "per capita." NYC has over 5 million residents, what is the black percentage compared to other places? What is it compared to 5 and 10 years ago?

Some people are on point. At one point, NYC was seen as the cultural decider for much of American culture. This is no longer true. shyt all my peers rather be weird and fashionable than tough, 5 percenter dustheads or other 90s NYC archetypes. They like other forms of music that lends to the poppy, artsy sound you see artist veering towards, instead of the boom bap, lyrical raps.
Weird and fashionable is another NYC archetype. key word, another. LOL @ reducing the most diverse & greatest cultural center on the planet to dustheads & boom bap.

Many of these diagnosis on the GOAT city are so far from reality they can only be coming from a deluded state of emotion, a state of bitterness, the inferiority complexes are seething through this thread

NYC does not have a copyright or were the first to promote "weird and fashionable" raps, but I get the ego. That may exist in NY but that isn't what other regions associate with NY rap. Ain't no one thinking Kool Keith when they think NYC rap. Plus other regions have had weirdo raps and oddly dressed rappers for as long as any in NY. On top of that, you got rappers taking inspiration from Kurt Kobain and Marilyn Manson and non rap. Tumblr got black kids in the hood expanding their cultural imprint beyond what was spoon fed to earlier generations via media machines like NYC. Now, NYC is just on of the people at the table, they don't have the head seat.

BX, NYC
is this a good thing?
No. All I was trying to say is the hoods are still grimy and populated mostly by minorities. Of course it's not early 90s crime level but these places like Brownsville which is nothing but high rise housing projects are still pretty dangerous.

Think about it. Before any big hip hop movement/rapper goes to the mainstream they have to capture the hood (black people). When black people really fukk with your shyt the mainstream (white people) will start to notice you.

Everyday black new yorkers move back down south (coincidence? :usure:) and the number of black people go down. Harlem aint all black anymore, brooklyn aint black like that anymore etc. Black people leaving in record numbers.

Now let's look at the south. You got black people supporting these rappers no matter what. That's why when one southern rapper falls off, there's 5 more to replace him :damn:
I saw this post months ago but left it alone on the basis of how stupid it was...But since so many people took it serious.

1.You must have missed the last 5 years, the hood no longer dominates & dictates the culture as it used to, if it did, Meek Mill would be hotter than Kendrick Lamar.

2.Harlem was never all black & despite being seen as a black cultural center it was pretty irrelevant in the grand scheme of hiphop being reduced to almost nothing when compared to other parts of the city like queens, a predominantly non black middle class boro. Go figure.

3.More black people in NYC than any other city in the country, no others even comes close.

4.Can't talk about black migration out of NYC and ignore the millions of black immigrants NYC has seen & continues to see.

5.Detroit only star is a white boy from Kansas. Nuff said

Basically, Hiphop in NY has fallen behind because black kids in New York ain't white washed enough to compete with the rest of the country? LOL.

The weird and fashionable friends of yours probably googling soho apartments as you type dreaming about leaving your city.

Huh? Where did you get white washed from? You can be influenced by something non-black and still hold true to your culture.

Culturally NYC is stagnant. Most people outside of the Tri-state thinks most of that shyt is corny and outdated.

Another point that needs to be emphasized is the production. Areas like ATL and the Bay have had all of the best production. The rappers in these areas are rapping over a much better palette of sounds than whatever NY pops out, which is why these NY dudes hop on the trap and hyphy beats trying to ride the wave. Everyone is a rapper or producer and just so happens NYC can't keep up with these other regions .
