The "War in Africa" thread got me thinking and I notice how "talk" about a specific region in the world always precedes American/Western intervention. White folks who were previously ignorant of the facts or forgot a region even existed all of a sudden start paying intense attention to what's going on. I'm talking everyday white people on the street. I was talking to some random middle aged white woman the other day concerned about bombings in Somalia.
You can follow this "chatter" as it evolves from media attention, to Hollywood treatment, to talking points, to political rhetoric, to congressional/political debate to military action.
Bear in mind "chatter" is exactly how the NSA/government spies on terrorist groups to find out what they are up to.
If you want to stay on top of white folks agenda, pay very close attention to the every day white person on the street and what issues suddenly matter to him.
