1992 David Robinson dominates MJ - YouTube

David Robinson who is one of the most athlete players in NBA history is your example. I guess all SF's today's NBA are as athletic as Lebron James then. The average NBA center athletically wasn't close to David Robinson. I still remember how nonathletic Sabonis was in the NBA.

Magic is 6'9 and he played the point. I don't consider him a "big man".

:comeon:

Webber, Garnett, and many other 90s big men all said they loved watching Magic and wanted to be like him.

And back then, being 6'9" was considered a big man.

It was Magic's fault.

:mindblown:

Look at the quote above that the thread was started off of, "GREAT BIG MEN", this isn't about the run of the mill 5s. David, Hakeem and even knock knees Patrick would be able to play today easily, if they could play at the pace the Nuggets used to run with they'd have NO trouble today.

Big man to me is 6'10 and above.

Patrick Ewing, Hakeem, David Robinson, Tim Duncan, Shaq , Alonzo, Brad Daugherty all came in the league after Magic as legit pivot players.

:what:

KG started this.

Those centers are elite centers. They are better than what we have today but they aren't the average center with terrible quickness and footspeed. Those wouldn't make it. Look at Thabeet for example.

Dog, Andrew Bynum plays in this era, the dude is barely able to move half the time. Yet someone like Brad Daugherty wouldn't be able to keep up? I'm sorry but I look at Marc Gasol and see a pretty good center that isn't better or more athletic than Rik Smits, yet Smits who wasn't elite....wouldn't be able to keep up?

Yes he would be especially defensively.

:dwillhuh: Over who?

Dream? Shaq? Ewing? Zo? D. Rob? Dikembe? :usure:

If Hibbert and co. were so good they wouldn't have had to alter to all-star rosters that that had been in place forever. :heh:

So was Karl Malone not considered a big man? Chris Webber? Blake Griffin? Alonzo Mourning? speed it up

Magic was the start of it. All these big men saw Magic dribbling the ball, doing behind the back passes and running an offense to NBA titles and they started to copy it. That includes KG and Dirk.

There were some that were still traditional, but there were many others that went the other way. Magic started it. KG and Dirk helped speed it up.

And for the few people who care about the NBA in the 1970s, Bob McAdoo was really the first guy.

What I'm sayin is there wasn't a complete dearth of traditional post, pivot players after Magic came in the league. There are only 4 or 5 now.

After KG you started seein 6'11, 7ft, "Power Forwards" who had no post presence at all and would just take jumpers.

Chris Bosh is a perfect example.

Chris Webber was doing this back in the 1990s before KG came in the league. I know, I watched it. :snoop:

Paradigm shifts don't always happen immediately. For example nikkas been sagging since the 80's. It wasn't immediately a fashion trend on the level it is now, it has grown over time. Would you suggest that Wayne started that trend just because it's been more rampant recently?
