Yeah, it's actually making a comeback now :blessed: Eventually a superstar 5 is going to come along and one may already be here since Embiid has all the tools to be that, just needs to stay healthy. There are a bunch of young big men on the horizon with post games, Jahlil Okafor, Karl Towns, Diamond Stone and while he's extremely young Deandre Ayton has the fluidity to eventually develop in the post.

:lupe: There ain't a center in the league today that could run the floor with The Dream or The Admiral, and both dudes could hit you for 40+ on any given night. The NBA in the 80s was played at a faster pace than today and the centers kept up just fine and didn't slow the game down.

This is what gets me. People act like playing fast and post play are mutually exclusive when they were tied at the hip throughout the first 40 or so years of the leagues existence.

On far tougher defenses and amidst different rule changes that makes it harder for those dudes to score consisteny. I could see dudes like Lopez, Horford, Cousins, and Big Al putting up great numbers in the 90s too.

Remember, Shaq, Hakeem, Robinson, and Ewing aren't the only 90 centers out there.

You just said he'd be Daugherty, which he already is. Brook is a legit 20 ppg scorer. So you're saying he'd average what, 25?

You also fail to take into account that Hakeem, Robinson and company were good defenders and shot blockers as well. Today's game lacks those so I can't just agree that low post defense is better.

You just compared one of the best low post scorers in the game today to Brad Daugherty. So who would be today's equivalent to Ewing? There isn't one and that's what people mean when they say no dominant bigs.

The current state of big men is underrated. Davis, Cousins, Gasol, Noah, Dwight, Lopez, Jefferson, Drummond, Horfod are all good/great big men and most of them haven't even reached their potential yet. Then you have Embiid, Okafor, Karl Town, Noel, and Myles Turner on the come up.

thats not a bad group of big men at all. At least better than it was in the early/mid 00s.

Blacklethicism has changed...

We got 6'9" and up cats moving like guards... Everybody wants to be the next LeBron now... And none of these fathers or coaches are forcing their sons into the post..

I don't really buy the rule changes excuse... I still believe a properly coached traditional big man can dominate in this league... ESPECIALLY now since most of these guys have never had to defend against one

I think these posts (especially the bolded parts) are related.

You can't just go in the post and play effectively because you have size. You have to LEARN to be a dominant "big man".
Usedta be a raw talent could play in college for 3 or 4 years and come into the L polished to play the post.
As @The_Third_Man said, there are some who are effective, but they are still learning how to do it - some still after 3 or so years...

Even with the zone in place, you can still get the ball into the post. Most of the entry problems come from bad scheming, and the fact that the big men aren't talented enough to consistently catch the ball, knowing where defenders are.

The original post reads like something an 18 year old cobbled together after reading a few basketblogs for the first time. Duncan and Jefferson both work against man and zone fine.... they also happen to be the two with the best footwork and move arsenal.

People who say 'post play is boring' are the same who think scarface > The Godfather.

Disagree with this, Boogie Cousins is legit! Dominant back to back big man with finesse as well, great shooting touch
