who was the best in the L when MJ retired in 98? cuz I thought it was shaq, that was a good 4-5 years on top brah fukk what the media was trying to spin you about duncan. That was just the blue chipper vs lazy athleted getting by on talent narrative they tend to do.Duncan was a pansy that shoud've been center but was moved to pf to spare himself from shaqthe better question is, when did someone have a reign this long as the best player in the league?
Lebron's been the best since at least the 07-08 season, if not sooner; meaning this will be his 5th straight year being the best basketball player in the world
Shaq's dominance didn't last that long, so you have to go all the way back to Jordan's reign before he retired to find a 5 year stretch like this one
It always makes me chuckle when I read this.Dude is a 9 year vet he aint "just" reaching his prime hes "in" it and has been in it for about 3-4 years now. We've seen the best lebron already maybe he'll find some shortcuts to use along the way when he loses his hops but its all downhill in about a couple yearscrazy thing is, Bron's not even done... dude is just now reaching his prime and I can see him being the best basketball player on the planet for at least the next 2 years... that would make 7 straight years of dude being the best, that's probably the longest unofficial streak of all time

Thats like asking who the best SG would be if kobe and wade retired tomorrow. It would just be a league of mediocre players, the gap between the top and the pack would be a lot more narrow. We would just have a bunch of nameless dudes like igudala battling to find out who sux the leastI think you could give Shaq from 98-99 to 01-02... in 02-03, Duncan was better than him IMO, so that's 4 years
yea Bron is a 9 year vet, but he's only 27 and he keeps getting better... all things considered, this is his best season as a pro... for argument's sake, let's say he loses half a step next year and in the future, who is there in the league that can take the crown from him in the foreseeable future? Durant isn't gonna suddenly become a great defender or an outstanding playmaker, he is what he is; he'll obviously get better, but his ceiling isn't THAT far away from the player that he is now IMO... Dwight's lack of offensive game will never let him reach that level... D. Rose may never be the same player again... so who?
Kyrie Irving? how long will that take?
Bron has multiple years ahead of him as the best player in the world, there's not really a clear heir to the throne at this point, so you gotta think he'll be THAT dude for at least the next 2 years if not longer

So I guess the media spun Duncan regularly matching or outplaying Shaq when they played? I guess Duncan didn't give Shaq that work when Shaq was guarding him one on one? :aicmon2: Duncan had Shaq beat in every category except low post scoring and elite perimeter teammates.
