But u fck wit lil b tho right? :mjpls:
Lil B has some heaters. Plus love him or hate him, he is unique :manny:

Same time though Im not gonna sit here and say Lil B is nice. Im not gonna put him in the category of nikkas that actually rap seriously. Not gonna get emotional about dudes who don't fukk with him. People do all that for ASAP Rocky tho :mjpls:

People know rap today is weak, but because its the soundtrack to their lives they feel like they have to defend it. I mean I bump everything from Gucci to Lupe. But I will call a spade a spade too.

Well..Asap can rap..he knows how to ride a beat, his use of alliteration can get crazy, his lyrics are decent and his flow is insane:wow:

Sure maybe his concepts could use some work and he could be more introspective...but he makes good music for what it is :manny:

Like I said nikka...stop hating breh:comeon:

Rocky's flow is just so :noah:

Asap Rocky - Suddenly (Lyrics) - YouTube

"We had cookouts and dirt bikes and dice games and fist fights
And fish fries and shootouts like one SIG with two rounds
And one click left two down, that’s four kids but one lived
Left three dead, but one split, that one miss, that one snitch
That’s everyday shyt, shyt we used to that
Add it up, do the math with your stupid ass
Don’t view me as no conscious cat, this ain’t no conscious rap
fukk the conscious crap, my mac’ll push your conscience back"

:noah:

Exactly. It's as if cats hear a couple songs and go "Yo...he's generic." Like I said, kid can definitely rap. It harkens back to what Drake was saying on "Lord Knows" about critics. You can hate the content all you want, but as someone that can appreciate different aspects of rap, you've got to respect the flow. :heh:

yeah but he doesn't make it work. it sounds more like a ripoff or a failed homage than a good representation. you're not even really supposed to sound like other rappers anyways.

his music isn't even really that amazing to make up for all his flaws. the chopped & slopped hooks and nice beats have all been done/heard before. a rapper like kanye's music is good enough to make up for anything he lacks at, asap's doesn't. we've all seen & heard his flows, beats, rhymes, subjects, clothes, i just don't get it :beli:

and btw, ASAP CANNOT rap. he's never impressed me with a single verse in my life. all his verses involve some gun reference or money, p*ssy, weed reference. like, all of them. he's boring too. and btw, he IS saying retarded wack off-beat shyt :heh:

Here's the problem. When I'm saying that someone can RAP, this is coming from someone that has written raps, recorded raps, and has rapped live. I didn't say "ASAP Rocky is deep and thought-provoking". I said he can RAP.

He can rap (orally apply verses to beats)...exceptionally well.

Rocky can piece an effective verse together regardless of the beat cadence, flow effortlessly on it, switch to double-time if he wants, slow it down, chop it up, and transition through all this while still incorporating shyt that's signature to him.

All that "get-get" shyt can get repetitive at times, but it's cool because it's HIS thing the way some rappers manage to constantly incorporate their signature ad-libs.

Dude's also decent off the top (for what it's worth) since he apparently "can't rap".

Dude's not going to be Nas and I could see the hate if he was TRYING to be and failing. He makes more of the music that people want to hear from him because it works. We don't want to hear Nas or some lyrical nikka trying to get flashy and failing, right?

I peeped that he put two of his more "serious and lyrical" tracks at the end of "Deep Purple" and "Live.Love.A$AP." Both tracks are produced by the Olympicks (:ahh:) and people sleep on them because the pairing of lyrics/production complementing one another > the focus being on Rocky's content because his overall music is superior to his lyricism.

Doesn't make him wack...he just knows his lane. Dude's not going to be like "Give me a basic, raw-guts Wu beat, breh. I'm about to TALK to these nikkas." :steviej:

Same with Lil' B and how all his most ignorant shyt has MILLIONS of views but songs like "Myspace" have a little over 50k. They know what works out here for them. If lyrics sold, then they'd probably...lyrically Talib Kweli.

Can someone explain to me the appeal? :why:

He' not lyrical. His whole swag is from another region.

His beats are cool but that aint got shyt to do with him. You could easily replace this cat with someone else and it would be no big deal.

You can look at cats like Drake, Kendrick, Future, Cudi, etc. and at least there's something unique about their artistry.

I put ASAP on the same level of Big Sean.

And he dresses like a bisexual

The special thing about him is that he's a hipster/street rapper.
He blends different obscure eras of music, like No Limit with Brother Lynch with Big L in one song without it sounding funny.

That's why he has music that sounds like no one else's.

He can make trick daddy type of lyrics sound like some cool, hipster modern shyt and stuff like that. It's hard to explain.

That's what's special with him.

Besides that, he's got a very flexible flow, good delivery, technical skills are quite good and on. Imo every rapper out doing well is special.
It's nearly impossible to blow without being somewhat special in 2013, in any genre besides Country (which still moves like music was in the 90s).

2011 I was starving for something new. People were raving about LiveloveA$AP .
So I decided to get it.

That shyt put me on hip hop hiatus .

I thought , is this were we are now ? It seemed like he was void of his own personality . It sounded bland . And it sounded like for all of the homage he was paying to other styles/artists .. This guy had nothing on offer.

And I'm sorry but everything else I checked for since out of curiosity felt the same way to me .

I need to be proven otherwise . Doubt I will be though .

Half of the appeal is how the image goes so well with the music let's be real.

For a mainstream MC, his production in large, is unique. No doubt it's some very slick marketing, either by himself or a label. It's a lot of biting of styles going on and putting it all together very well.

At the end of the day, the music is good, if not vapid. Everything is done to be cool.
