yeah but he doesn't make it work. it sounds more like a ripoff or a failed homage than a good representation. you're not even really supposed to sound like other rappers anyways.

his music isn't even really that amazing to make up for all his flaws. the chopped & slopped hooks and nice beats have all been done/heard before. a rapper like kanye's music is good enough to make up for anything he lacks at, asap's doesn't. we've all seen & heard his flows, beats, rhymes, subjects, clothes, i just don't get it :beli:

and btw, ASAP CANNOT rap. he's never impressed me with a single verse in my life. all his verses involve some gun reference or money, p*ssy, weed reference. like, all of them. he's boring too. and btw, he IS saying retarded wack off-beat shyt :heh:

"They say money make a nikka act ******-ish/
But least a nikka nikka rich"

if you could link me to a nice ASAP verse i would gladly change some of my opinions on him :yeshrug:

I'm on record here saying that I don't think Rocky is as good as the blogs hype him up to be. but the dude definitely can rap, and every now and then he'll drop something of substance

I thought I'd probably die in prison, expensive taste in women
Ain't had no pot to piss in, at my kitchen full of dishes
Nose bloody from that sniffin', your heroin addiction
Trigger finger itching fukk parental supervision
This be that murder business, little Timmy got that semi
I ain't kidding hide yo kittens, hit yo children with that Smith and
A bunch of ignant little niglets, hard headed, never listen
Purple sippin', finger twistin', teeth glisten like it's Memphis
A bunch of hypocritic Christians, the land of no religion
My Santa Claus was missing, catch you slippin' then it's Christmas
Motherfukk a wishlist, my ghetto was ambition
For my benjis and my Bentley, and them bytches now I gets gets
On the road to riches, a diamond ring, designer jeans
Toking on that biscuit till I'm no longer existing
I wonder if they miss me, as long as I make history
Now my soul is feeling empty, tell the reaper come and get me

that's a decent verse mixed with a great flow imo

:ehh: I'll admit, that was a pretty decent verse... on paper:trollbron2: his delivery is still really bland and boring, that it practically annuls any sense of lyrical ability. I feel like i'm hating though, so I'll just leave it at that.

Here's the problem. When I'm saying that someone can RAP, this is coming from someone that has written raps, recorded raps, and has rapped live. I didn't say "ASAP Rocky is deep and thought-provoking". I said he can RAP.

He can rap (orally apply verses to beats)...exceptionally well.

Rocky can piece an effective verse together regardless of the beat cadence, flow effortlessly on it, switch to double-time if he wants, slow it down, chop it up, and transition through all this while still incorporating shyt that's signature to him.

All that "get-get" shyt can get repetitive at times, but it's cool because it's HIS thing the way some rappers manage to constantly incorporate their signature ad-libs.

Dude's also decent off the top (for what it's worth) since he apparently "can't rap".

Dude's not going to be Nas and I could see the hate if he was TRYING to be and failing. He makes more of the music that people want to hear from him because it works. We don't want to hear Nas or some lyrical nikka trying to get flashy and failing, right?

I peeped that he put two of his more "serious and lyrical" tracks at the end of "Deep Purple" and "Live.Love.A$AP." Both tracks are produced by the Olympicks (:ahh:) and people sleep on them because the pairing of lyrics/production complementing one another > the focus being on Rocky's content because his overall music is superior to his lyricism.

Doesn't make him wack...he just knows his lane. Dude's not going to be like "Give me a basic, raw-guts Wu beat, breh. I'm about to TALK to these nikkas." :steviej:

Same with Lil' B and how all his most ignorant shyt has MILLIONS of views but songs like "Myspace" have a little over 50k. They know what works out here for them. If lyrics sold, then they'd probably...lyrically Talib Kweli.

sure, he can adjust his flows and tempo's to whatever he wants. But i cannot see why anybody thinks it sounds good :heh: And that doesn't even really take too much skill to accomplish for a rapper to change his cadence according to a beat. his flow is just boring bland and empty, which is my problem. forget what he's talking about or what he's saying. i actually like Phoenix & Suddenly, but again, asap's blandness just ruins it for me. in my honest opinion, j. cole is more exciting on the mic than he is. applying verses to beats isn't a difficult art to master, its what every professional MC should be capable of doing, and there's about a million of those, so what makes ASAP special?

opinions on hip hop seriously now   :smh:

besides the fact that the last 2 sentences of that paragraph were basically unintelligible and made no sense, imma respond to this

Rocky has established himself as a braggadocio rapper, just like pioneers of the genre like BDK, Rakim, LL etc. So I don't see why people get criticized for this today. Not every artist has to spit about thought-provoking shyt on each record. Music is still entertainment at the end of the day. I don't understand how that dweeb can talk about appreciating Lil B and not being able to appreciate Rocky in the same vein. He sound like a struggling artist mad that Rocky got hot on image and good marketing :jawalrus:
you saying that guys me? :dwillhuh:

ASAP is the rapper these fans deserve. A just add water pop tart nikka with an average skill set on the mic and a so called "image" that is basically a Mr. Potato head mashup of older, better emcees. :hmm:

Add an androgynous twist to make it palatable to the hipster/taste maker crowd and taadow :troll:

I don't blame him for it tho. As far as the current crop of rappers go he's probly one of the "good" ones I guess.

I still don't get why these nikkas just don't go full drag it's so obvious that's what they really want to do. This cat right here is actually the future of mainstream Hip Hop. :piss:

Can someone explain to me the appeal? :why:

He' not lyrical. His whole swag is from another region.

His beats are cool but that aint got shyt to do with him. You could easily replace this cat with someone else and it would be no big deal.

You can look at cats like Drake, Kendrick, Future, Cudi, etc. and at least there's something unique about their artistry.

I put ASAP on the same level of Big Sean.

U had me til the last sentence.

No shyttin on Big Sean breh breh. That aint gon fly wit me:ufdup:
