i get what you are saying. no they didnt do cinematic shyt first but they are the first to use it as a game mechanic. they did it in uncharted 1 tooIt pioneered because wasn't shyt else like it that did all that in one package. Hence why pioneer is fitting.
It's like Gears didn't pioneer TPS because there was literally other TPS out before it. It revolutionized it. Halo didn't pioneer FPS on consoles, it revolutionized it.
UC2's whole style wasn't done before. Notice I don't mention UC1. UC1 was just like a blueprint. It wasn't fully there yet. UC2 really got the ball rolling.
I think the semantics of the word "cinematic" differs among thieves I mean people.i get what you are saying. no they didnt do cinematic shyt first but they are the first to use it as a game mechanic. they did it in uncharted 1 too
I can't wait for 4 man. I know they feeling pressured because let's face it Uncharted is pretty much the benchmark for AAA games and people are clamoring for that next gen experience. I'm a little optimistic because dudes thought they were pretty much lucky with UC2 but then they turn around and drop TLOU.i agree with the thread premise tho. you can always do point A to point B in an open world game but that still doesnt make it linear.
and linear games dont mean movie games or that would make shyt like super mario brothers a movie game
linear games tend to define everything. finite levels, obstacles, goals, areas etc.
open world games, the lines are blurred for just about everything. time and distance are employed as game mechanics
none of this applies to every single game but thats generally how it is
as always a matter of preference, there are more differences than just point a to b
bu bu bu linear games can only be played once! Bullshyt. This probably my sixth time going through this game.I think I found @Fatboi1 review of the Uncharted Collection.

For all the game industry’s current obsession with open worlds and open-ended narratives, the Uncharted games stand as a shining example of the possibility for linear stories to be infinitely re-playable. They don’t need anything more.
