Having just started playing the Nathan Drake Collection on PS4 and I can't help but feel "comfy" in how laid back and much more focused these games were. I miss these cohesive, focused games that seems to be sparse so far this gen where every game is bloated.
Now TLOU was an improvement in that you still went from A to B but the spot from A to B was like a little sandbox. I prefer this approach rather than full blown Open world for the fukk of it like how MGSV did. I'm sorry but despite that game having good gameplay and whatnot, the pacing and structure of the game was terrible. I didn't like choosing missions and just doing shyt unrelated to the story over and over. I would've preferred a game structured like MGS1-3 with sandbox levels over giant open worlds with nothing in it besides some random deers or wandering soldier. I see this sentiment expressed a lot online about how MGS:GZ design would've been better instead of the way MGSV is.
I hope this gen brings more linear games man. Linear isn't bad as I see cats keep thinking linear means terrible and boring. Linear games are dope man.
Give me more Max Payne, Uncharted, Bayonetta, Halo and RE4s over Ass Creeds, Far Crys, GTAs and MGSVs. MGSV imo would've been a better game if they cut half the fat out the game. Just beautiful A to B with big levels. There was too much open space that seemed like it was there for naught.
Open world games bring more harm than good. They're only fun in games like GTA where you can just do anything but that's outside of missions. Very few games do fun open worlds and again they just don't hold a candle to more linear games when it comes to a well paced story.
I hope they don't make Mass Effect:Andromeda or w/e open world.
