This applies to both hiphop & r&b. Yeah they would have to split the money, but it's better than being a struggling solo artist with a career going nowhere.

Everyone isn't built to be a solo artist.

Let's take Young Money. They got guys like Cory Gunz, Jae Millz, etc just sitting on the label. Instead of trying to showcase them on a bullshyt compilation, why not make them into a real, cohesive group. Have them rhyme back & forth on some Kiss/Styles shyt. They could probably get further together than on their own.

I've always been high on groups, just because I known most artists have no business being solo anyway.

i think itd be much easier to come up as a group than it is a solo artist. seems like you just need that 1 person to kick down the door for you to get shine off their shine, or at least checked out because of the guy who kicked down the door. i would probably never listened to, heard or bothered checking out the other asap members music if it they weren't rockys protege's and had "asap" in their name.

but things with groups is, jealousy arises. so and so becomes mad because the guy who kicked down the door gets more love and recognition and they wanna be wanna be the "leader" and don't wanna play their position.

Even though I agree with you, this is exactly why it's gone.

"dropped 4 niccas, now i'm making all the dough..."

I think about Q-Tip breaking down how they went plat of off Low End Theory but he only made 24K...if he didn't have to split it with Phife and Ali, he would've done pretty good...

Again, this is a good point as well...but you can understand how this takes place, doe.

I mean...let's be real:

EVERYBODY IN ST. LUNATICS WAS DOPER THAN NELLY, except the dude with the mask.

But Nelly had the star power, so he was the Door Kicker (lol). You gotta be a real humble dude to
be Murphy Lee and see your boy sing "Pimp Juice" and sell 4 mil, while Da Skoolboy Presents: Murphy's Law
ain't movin' like you think it should...

Groups used to be the boys you'd grow up with, two or more rivaling rappers coming together and forming something, or maybe an acquittance you eventually just vibe with when you get the career started. I cant think of a nice group that was fabricated by a label, other than R&B groups. But that was pretty common.

Coming together and doing it together with people you grew up with, that's done and over with.

this is why you should have your own hustle on the side you can make money off of that you don't gotta split with your team.

for instance, rocky got tshirts and sweatshirts with his face on it, and hats with asvp on it in stores. they got the asap mob online shop that is kinda expensive, but people buy the shyt. but ferg also has his own clothing hustle on the side, his own site he sells his own merch off of.

even their non-rappers got shyt going for them. a$ap bari just opened up his own store in Ohio, Nova that sells streetwear and high end shyt.

There would be if they didn't break up so easily

Nowadays I'm watching groups/duos break up before the money even comes

While they still in the hood

No loyalty no more

I am actually looking at this from a business perspective.

I should have been more specific. I'm referring to artist whose career is stagnant. Why not develop a group as a way to showcase your talent & then perhaps move on later?

As a previous poster said, Slaughterhouse is a perfect example.

When I mean group, I'm not thinking of homeboys that grew up together. I'm thinking of nyggas in the industry, that are stuck & need to reinvent themselves.

Look at the names I mentioned. Jae Millz & Cory Gunz. They are actually cool & aren't doing shyt anyway. They are on the same label. Might as well try to generate some interest together.

Fair enough...although, Slaughterhouse is not a "perfect" example of anything. lol

A better example of such would be Tha Eastsidaz imo.
